Spieth, Mickelson Groups to be Featured Thursday on ESPN3 from The Open
As Jordan Spieth begins his quest to win the third leg of golf's Grand Slam on Thursday in The Open at Scotland's St Andrews links course, his group will be highlighted on ESPN3's "Featured Players" feed for his entire first round.
ESPN3 is offering golf fans four options for a second-screen experience during ESPN's live telecast of The Open.
The ESPN3 Featured Players feed will start at 4:20 a.m. ET on Thursday, just before Spieth tees off at 4:33 a.m. (9:33 a.m. local time in Scotland) in a group with Dustin Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama. Spieth has already won the Masters Tournament and the U.S. Open this year, the first two of golf's four majors.
After Spieth's round is complete, the Featured Players feed will shift to the group of Phil Mickelson, Henrik Stinson and Matt Kuchar, which has a 9:34 a.m. ET (2:34 p.m. local) tee time.
Trey Wingo and Allen Bestwick will share the host role on the Featured Players feed, with analysts Tom Weiskopf and Carl Paulson.
Another ESPN3 feed will highlight the famous "Road Hole" at St Andrews, the par-4 17th that is widely regarded as one of the toughest in golf. The feed also will include @TheOpen Live, an "outside the ropes" presentation covering the general atmosphere of the event that also includes fan interviews and news conferences.
ESPN3's The Open options also will include a Spanish-language feed and the International View from the BBC coverage.
ESPN's television coverage of the first round begins at 4 a.m.
ESPN3 is currently available to more than 99 million homes at no additional cost to fans who receive their high-speed Internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated service provider. The network is also available at no cost to approximately 21 million U.S. college students and U.S.-based military personnel via computers, smartphones and tablets connected to on-campus educational and on-base military broadband and Wi-Fi networks.
