- Over 80 Films Will Air, Including the World Premiere of MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS: FRIENDSHIP GAMES -
(Beverly Hills, Calif.) - Discovery Family Channel announced, today, that beginning in September it will air over 80 of the most popular and beloved films making it the new home for the most family friendly movies on television. Discovery Family's Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights are programmed with a bit of something for everyone - from animated favorites like Robots (20th Television), to classics like Annie (Sony), to timeless comedies like The Beverly Hillbillies (20th Television), to throwback hits like the Back to the Future trilogy (NBC Universal). Discovery Family is also the exclusive home for the world premiere of MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS: FRIENDSHIP GAMES (Hasbro Studios) on Saturday, September 26 at 8/7c. "As the leading television destination for families in the United States, Discovery Family is dedicated to offering reliable, entertaining and appropriate content 24/7 for the entire family," said Tom Cosgrove, general manager, Discovery Family Channel. "To round out our fall primetime slate featuring exciting new original series, we are giving our audience more family movies, more nights a week than any other network, cable or broadcast, making DFC the best destination for your nearest and dearest to gather together, laugh and be entertained." This robust slate of films includes more than 20 titles coming to Discovery Family Channel for the first time, such as George of the Jungle (Disney ABC; September) and Dr. Doolittle 2 (20thTelevision; December), in addition to the world premiere of Hasbro's MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS: FRIENDSHIP GAMES. EQUESTRIA GIRLS is the "grown up" version of the Discovery Family hit daytime series MY LITTLE PONY, with the characters reimagined as teenage girls in a rock band, The Rainbooms, who embrace the magic of friendship as much as their pony counterparts. In this all-new movie, it's Friendship Games season - but the competition is anything but friendly. Canterlot High, home to the magical Equestria Girls, is set to face off against its rival school Crystal Prep Academy - Sunset Shimmer's new home turf - in a series of three events: an Academic Decathlon, an Athletic Competition and a spirited game of Capture the Flag. But when the magic at Canterlot falters, the Equestria Girls begin to wonder what or who could be responsible - and if the Magic of Friendship will reign supreme in the end.
