STARZ TO OFFER SUBSCRIBERS ONLINE AND ON-DEMAND BINGEING OPPORTUNITIES FOR "FLESH AND BONE" LIMITED SERIES AND "DA VINCI'S DEMONS" FINAL SEASON
Beverly Hills, Calif., July 31, 2015 - Starz Chief Executive Officer Chris Albrecht announced at today's Starz Television Critics Association (TCA) presentation at the Beverly Hilton that all episodes of the third and final season of "Da Vinci's Demons" and the widely-anticipated limited series "Flesh and Bone" will be available exclusively for STARZ subscribers on STARZ PLAY and STARZ ON DEMAND, in the U.S., commensurate with their respective first episode premieres on October 24 and November 8.
The bingeing opportunities give STARZ subscribers online and on-demand options to watch all ten episodes of season three of "Da Vinci's Demons" from creator and executive producer by David S. Goyer and all eight episodes of "Flesh and Bone" from Emmy(R) award-winning "Breaking Bad" writer and executive producer Moira Walley-Beckett, in advance of the respective episode premieres on STARZ.
"Starz has had a fantastic year with original programming in 2015 and we are rewarding our STARZ subscribers with two special opportunities to immerse themselves into quality series and enjoy them on their own schedules,"
said Albrecht.
David Baldwin, Starz Executive Vice President of Program Planning added, "The great and passionate followers of
'Da Vinci's Demons' have been waiting since the spring of last year for new episodes, while the gritty world of ballet as depicted in the 'Flesh and Bone' limited series is must-see television for fans of the genre and great television alike. Both series are engaging and well-suited for a binge viewing experiment. In the busy fall television season, we thought this was a terrific benefit for STARZ subscribers who want to get a jump and enjoy the complete series on their own time and schedule, with the first two seasons of 'Da Vinci's Demons' already available on STARZ PLAY and STARZ ON DEMAND."
About "Da Vinci's Demons"
The historical fantasy, created and executive produced by David S. Goyer and produced by Adjacent Productions, follows the 'untold' story of the world's greatest genius, Leonardo da Vinci, during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. John Shiban ("Hell on Wheels," "Breaking Bad,""The X-Files") joins "Da Vinci's Demons" season three as executive producer and showrunner. Series creator David S. Goyer will continue to serve as executive producer.
Brilliant and passionate, the 25-year-old Leonardo da Vinci is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. As a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time.
"Da Vinci's Demons" stars Tom Riley ("Monroe," "Doctor Who"), as the title character; Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy) who plays Lucrezia Donati; Elliot Cowan ("Luther") who plays the de factor ruler of Florence, Lorenzo Medici; Lara Pulver (Edge of Tomorrow, "Fleming," "Sherlock"), who plays his wife Clarice Orsini; and Blake Ritson (Serena, "Upstairs Downstairs") who plays the ruthless and unwavering Count Girolamo Riario, nephew of Pope Sixtus IV.
Jane Tranter serves as Executive Producer. The series is produced by Adjacent Productions, a label launched and run by Tranter to sit alongside BBC Worldwide Productions in order to identify new and original programming created and produced under the company's umbrella.
About "Flesh and Bone"
"Flesh and Bone" follows a young dancer with a distinctly troubled past as she joins a prestigious ballet company in New York. The dark, gritty, complex series unflinchingly explores New York City through the eyes of Claire, played by Sarah Hay ("Black Swan"), an emotionally wounded but transcendent ballerina navigating the dysfunction and glamour of the ballet world. Claire's self-destructive tendencies amid her vaulting ambitions drive her in compelling, unforeseeable ways, especially when she is confronted with the machinations of the company's mercurial Artistic Director, played by Ben Daniels ("House of Cards," "Law & Order UK") and an unwelcome visitor from her past.
"Flesh and Bone," was created by Emmy award-winning "Breaking Bad" writer and Executive Producer, Moira Walley-Beckett. John Melfi ("House of Cards," "Sex and the City"), Lawrence Bender ("Inglourious Basterds," "Pulp Fiction" and "Good Will Hunting") and Kevin Brown ("Roswell") are Executive Producers. Australian filmmaker David Michd ("Animal Kingdom," "Rover") directed the first episode.
To ensure authenticity, the Executive Producers cast a company of 22 accomplished ballet dancers including former American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Irina Dvorovenko (Kiira), former American Ballet Theatre soloist Sascha Radetsky (Ross), Ballet Arizona company dancer Raychel Diane Weiner (Daphne) and Emily Tyra (Mia) from "Boardwalk Empire." Ethan Stiefel, former artistic director of the Royal New Zealand Ballet and a former American Ballet Theatre principal dancer, served as consultant and choreographer. He created a 13-minute original ballet for "Flesh and Bone." Other cast members include Josh Helman ("X-Men: Days of Future Past"), Damon Herriman ("Justified"), Tina Benko ("The Good Wife") and Tovah Feldshuh ("The Walking Dead").
"Da Vinci's Demons" will make its linear STARZ premiere at 9:00 PM ET/PT on Saturday, October 24, and "Flesh and Bone" premieres at 9:00 PM ET/PT on Sunday, November 8 - both exclusively on STARZ with subsequent episodes airing every Saturday and Sunday night through December 26 and December 27, respectively.
