FRED ARMISEN AND CARRIE BROWNSTEIN CONTEMPLATE PARENTHOOD, BIG CORPORATIONS, TELEVISION THEME SONGS AND RAMEN NOODLES ON "PORTLANDIA"
- Season 6 Premieres January 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on IFC -
New York, NY (November 10, 2015) - Emmy(R)-nominated comedy Portlandia returns to IFC for its highly anticipated sixth season on Thursday, January 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT for ten all-new episodes. Created by Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein and Jonathan Krisel, the series continues to explore the eccentric misfits who embody the foibles of modern culture. Portlandia is executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video.
"Fred and Carrie are true comedy rock stars. They always have something fresh and relevant to say through their observational humor, whether about relationships or technology or culture, and that's why they're bigger than the Beatles, in my mind at least," said IFC President Jennifer Caserta.
In season six, Fred and Carrie deliver even more of their Portland point of view: a couple inadvertently create a ramen noodle monster that wreaks havoc on the city while the Mayor tries to lure a tech company to Portland... Doug and Claire break up, only to wind up frustrated by a way-younger party girl and an overly caring feminist, respectively... Dave and Kath decide to run a marathon that takes place the following day... The Mayor puts the moves on Carrie with a canister of frozen sperm from his office refrigerator... Fred turns grey overnight and, in seeking answers from the universe, gets sucked into a black hole.
Guest stars coming to Portlandia this season include Jillian Bell (Workaholics), Louis C.K. (Louie), musician Wayne Coyne and The Flaming Lips, musician Glenn Danzig, Gregory Gourdet (Top Chef), Mitchell Hurwitz (Arrested Development), Moshe Kasher (Another Period), Zoe Kravitz (Dope, Mad Max), John Levenstein (Kroll Show), NPR's Kai Ryssdal, Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Robert Smigel (Saturday Night Live) and Bitsie Tulloch (Grimm).
Returning guest stars include Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Natasha Lyonne (Orange Is the New Black), Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley) and Portland's Mayor Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D).
In addition to their role as creators, Armisen, Brownstein and Krisel serve as writers and executive producers of Portlandia, along with Karey Dornetto and Graham Wagner. Broadway Video's Andrew Singer is also an executive producer. Veteran director Jonathan Krisel is joined this season by guest directors Steve Buscemi, Bill Benz and Daniel Gray Longino. Portlandia is shot entirely on location in Portland, Oregon.
Portlandia seasons 1-5 are available now on Netflix and iTunes.
