SYFY LABS AND MAKERBOT EXPAND 3D PRINTING PARTNERSHIP
-- Includes Exclusive Models Inspired By Syfy Hit Series 12 MONKEYS, THE MAGICIANS, HUNTERS and more --
NEW YORK - March 18, 2016 - Syfy Labs, Syfy's innovation lab, and MakerBot, one of the industry's leading innovators in 3D printing, today announced an expansion of their successful partnership, with a new line of exclusive 3D models from the network's original series 12 MONKEYS, THE MAGICIANS, HUNTERS, KILLJOYS and DARK MATTER.
New models will include 12 MONKEYS' iconic time machine and an alien skull from HUNTERS, a new thriller from executive producers Gale Anne Hurd ("The Walking Dead") and Natalie Chaidez ("Heroes"). Printable files will be available on Syfy's page on Thingiverse (thingiverse.com/Syfy/designs), and the network will launch additional show-inspired models on Thingiverse in the coming weeks.
Thingiverse houses more than one million 3D designs, making it the largest online community for discovering, making and sharing 3D printable models. Syfy is the first major television network to share content exclusively on Thingiverse.
Syfy Labs blends technology with immersive, multi-platform content and experiences for existing and emerging platforms. The partnership with MakerBot was launched in January 2015 with a number of 3D models, including spaceships "The Knight" and "The Canterbury" from Syfy's critically acclaimed series THE EXPANSE.
"In just two months, our partnership with MakerBot has found an enthusiastic and growing audience among the 3D printing community. It's a natural evolution to extend this relationship to include more of our engaging series," said Matthew Chiavelli, Senior Vice President, Syfy Digital.
"We're excited not only to see the partnership between MakerBot and Syfy Labs grow, but also for the new designs that will be uploaded to Thingiverse," said Eric Mortenson, Community Manager, MakerBot Thingiverse. "Since Syfy joined Thingiverse at the beginning of this year, they've reached nearly 1,000 followers who, among others, are no doubt excited to see what comes next."
This next wave of 3D models from Syfy's popular programming will be introduced March 18th at the first ever Silicon Valley Comic-Con in San Jose, California, as part of the Voodoo Manufacturing Booth. Voodoo Manufacturing has worked with Syfy to design and optimize all show-centric models for 3D printing, and produce them for various events including the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show.
