NETFLIX CELEBRATES "MARSEILLE"

Netflix Brings a Touch of Hollywood to the South of France in Support of the Worldwide Release of the New Original Series, "Marseille"

MARSEILLE, France- May 4, 2016 - Netflix, the world's leading internet TV network, celebrates the global launch of its original series Marseille with a tribute to the capital of Provence, which served as the inspiration, setting and main character for the fictional new series.

In advance of the series launch on May 5th, Netflix surprised the residents of Marseille today in true Hollywood fashion when a french twist of the original "Hollywood" sign was erected to overlook the city. The towering letters, reaching close to fifty feet high and over three hundred feet long, are a testament to the vibrancy of Marseille as a flourishing destination for entertainment and international culture. This signifies the iconic personality of the region which inspired the first Netflix original series produced in France.

Marseille weaves a story of power, corruption and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the French port city. The city of Marseille plays the central character in this thriller with Shakespearian overtones, as Gérard Depardieu and Benoît Magimel wage a merciless war to seize the keys to the city.

"Marseille is an ambitious, diabolically smart, fictitious exploration of local politics in one of the world's most vibrant and fascinating cities. We are delighted to be working with some of the best storytellers to deliver a series that erases the line between film and television," said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer.

The show stars Gérard Depardieu as "Mayor Robert Taro," Benoît Magimel as "Lucas Barrès," Géraldine Pailhas as "Rachel Taro," Nadia Farès as "Vanessa d'Abrantès," and Stéphane Caillard as "Julia."

All eight episodes of Marseille will be available to stream globally on Netflix beginning May 5th.
