WatchESPN Access Launches on Android TV
Video Subscribers Will Be Able to Stream Live Events through the ESPN App
Disney and ESPN Media Networks have worked closely with Google to bring the complete suite of authenticated Disney/ABC and ESPN video streaming apps on Android TV. Beginning today, WatchESPN access through the ESPN app can be found in the Play Store on any Android TV and will be included in all new Nexus Players. In addition to live streaming access to ESPN networks, the app will also include short-form video clips and ESPN Classic on-demand content as part of its offering.
"This agreement with Google enhances the value of being a video subscriber to our networks," said Sean Breen, senior vice president, affiliate sales for Disney and ESPN Media Networks. "Delivering our content seamlessly within this app-like user interface on Android TV embraces a growing trend in consumer behavior and consumption habits. We will continue to work with both traditional providers and new entrants to distribute Disney/ABC and ESPN networks in new and unique ways."
Devices that will carry WatchESPN access through the ESPN app at launch include Sony 4K HDR Ultra HD TVs, Sharp Aquos Android TV, Google Nexus Player, Nvidia Shield and Razer Forge TV. It will also be available on select Phillips and RCA models at a later date.
WatchESPN is available to subscribers across all major television providers nationwide. In addition to today's launch, it is also accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets and connected devices to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.
Additional apps launching on Android TV from Disney/ABC Television Group will be coming soon.
