A CONCERT CELEBRATING JOHN RIDLEY AND ABC'S 'AMERICAN CRIME,' FEATURING THE WORLD PREMIERE OF 'AMERICAN CRIME SUITE' WITH COMPOSER MARK ISHAM, WILL BE PERFORMED AT THE KIRK DOUGLAS THEATRE ON JUNE 6
Special Screening of the Documentary 'Inside American Crime'
to Be Screened Prior to the Concert
John Ridley and ABC's critically acclaimed series "American Crime" will be celebrated with a special concert, featuring the world premiere of "American Crime Suite" by composter Mark Isham, at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City, California, at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 6.
Additionally, in "Season Two: Episode Five" of "American Crime," Ridley included an original ballet, "Touch," choreographed to Isham's music to further the storyline. Isham describes the dance as a "symbolic tale" and a rare opportunity to compose concert music for a television drama. This piece of music will also be performed during the concert.
From his days as a pioneering icon of electronic music to his current status as a world-renowned film and television composer, Isham continues to be one of the most prolific and provocative artists on the scene. His gift for creating unforgettable melodies and his love of fresh, innovative sonic palettes have earned him many awards, including a Grammy(R), an Emmy(R) and a Clio, in addition to multiple Grammy, Oscar(R) and Golden Globe(R) nominations for his work both as a composer and a recording artist. ASCAP honored him with the Henry Mancini Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2006.
Isham has deep roots in classical music, and he has identified composers Steve Reich and Arvo Pärt for their inspiration. Isham's music was suggested to Ridley for the series when listening to Max Richter's "November."
The performance begins with music that inspires Ridley and Isham, and the program is as follows:
"Nagoya Marimbas" by Steve Reich
"Fratres" for cello and piano by Arvo Pärt
"November" for violin and string orchestra by Max Richter
"Touch" for percussion and string orchestra by Mark Isham
"American Crime Suite" for chamber orchestra by Isham
Mark Alan Hilt, conductor
Alyssa Park, violin
Timothy Loo, cello
Louise Thomas, piano
Yuri Inoo & Nick Stoup, marimbas
Lyris Quartet; Jacaranda Chamber Orchestra
The event begins with a special screening of the half-hour documentary "Inside American Crime," which weaves revealing interviews with the cast, producers and Isham with behind-the-scenes footage to provide a unique look at the provocative second season of one of television's most talked about shows.
Tickets for the event are free, but you must RSVP at jacarandamusic.org.
