NEW YORK, NY -September 22, 2016 - The princes and princesses of the hip hop world are back for an explosive new season of WE tv's docu-series, "Growing Up Hip Hop," premiering Thursday October 13th at 9pm ET/PT.
Hip Hop royalty Angela Simmons, Romeo Miller, Damon "Boogie" Dash, Kristinia DeBarge, TJ Mizell and Egypt Criss all return for a drama filled season where shocking truths are finally revealed, changing the lives of this tight-knit group of friends forever. André King, brother of Swizz Beatz and friend of Angela Simmons, and Briana Latrise, the troubled daughter of Mary J. Blige's now ex-husbandger, Kendu Issacs, join the crew this season, challenging the fragile dynamic of the group.
The premiere episode opens as the group prepares to come together at the event of the year... newcomer André King's birthday party! Romeo returns from filming overseas to the shocking news of Angela's engagement, creating a lot of chatter and a laundry list of unanswered questions. Kristinia hears the news and becomes nervous that rumors from last season may be haunting her and makes it her mission to clear the air with Angela. Meanwhile, Egypt is hard at work in the studio, on her own, for the first time; however, when mom pops in to check up on her, its clear Pepa is still struggling with letting go. This season, the title of the show has never rung more true, as unforeseen circumstances propel this new generation into adulthood. As the crew continues to try to hustle and pave their own way, friendships, iconic families, loyalties, and the world of hip hop will may never be the same.
"Growing Up Hip Hop" season two features:
Angela Simmons (@AngelaSimmons), daughter of rap pioneer Rev. Run of Run- D.M.C, is a hip hop socialite, model and fashion designer of her own fashion line, Foofi, named after her toy poodle. As viewers know from season one, love has been an issue for Angela; however, she recently shocked the world with a surprising, secretive engagement and pregnancy. This season, Angela struggles to keep her private life under wraps, and realizes the true challenge of living in the public eye on her own.
Romeo Miller (@RomeoMiller) Musician, Hollywood actor and son of hip hop artist and entrepreneur Master P., Romeo Miller is juggling his busy career with a fast-paced globetrotting lifestyle. This season, we see Romeo take control over the No Limit Kingdom, and as a result, has landed in the middle of a bitter lawsuit over the ownership of No Limit that has divided his family. All this on top of his complicated relationship with Angela... Does Romeo have what it takes to manage the family business while balancing his own career and dealing with the turmoil within his family?
Damon "Boogie" Dash (@DashDamon), namesake of his father, former Roc-A-Fella Records music and media mogul, Damon Dash; is an entrepreneur just like his dad. This season, Boogie is living in New York and has his eyes set on expanding his business; however, his dad has other plans for him. Demanding he work to his maximum potential, his father is constantly putting pressure on him to move to Los Angeles and join the family business. But Boogie has other plans and when he is arrested and charged with a DUI, his father is less than pleased.
Kristinia DeBarge (@kristinia) is the daughter of James DeBarge from the legendary, yet troubled group DeBarge, and a singer/songwriter in her own right. Last season, Kristinia rekindled her rocky relationship with her newly sober father. This season, it has been yet to be seen if that was the right decision. Kristinia's world is turned upside down as her father reveals to her that he had an illegitimate child with a very high profile artist. Will the rumors and revelations and her fathers on again off again addiction be so much of a distraction that it puts her lifelong dream of being a successful recording artist in jeopardy?
TJ Mizell (@TJMIZELL) is the son of Jam Master Jay, one-third of the famous rap group Run-D.M.C. He recently returned to New York to step into his famous father's shoes as a DJ. TJ spins at the hottest events and venues around the world and best known as A$AP Ferg's DJ. Much of his time these days is filled with touring, this season he struggles to put the haunting memories of his father's death to rest.
Egypt Criss (@EgyptCriss), the daughter of Sandra "Pepa" Denton from Salt-N-Pepa and rap icon Treach from Naughty By Nature, has been yearning to follow her dream of having a solo music career. However, Pepa is not willing to let her baby make the same mistakes she did. Although Pepa is supportive and wants to help Egypt navigate the industry, she has made it very clear Egypt must finish college. Will Egypt concede to her mother's conditions? Or will she go behind her mother's back to make her dreams a reality now?
André King
André is the brother of Swizz Beats and the brother-in-law of Alicia Keys. Andre is a model, aspiring actor, and professional playboy. André has turned partying into a full-time job, often using his celebrity contacts to fill the hottest clubs in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. Regardless of André's seeming popularity, he is at a crossroads of his life and reaches out to friend Angela Simmons for support. They have been friends for years, but does Angela know the real him?
