"THE TRANS LIST," EXPLORING THE LIVES OF A DIVERSE GROUP OF TRANSGENDER AMERICANS, DEBUTS DEC. 5 EXCLUSIVELY ON HBO

Subjects Include Caitlyn Jenner, Laverne Cox, Caroline Cossey, Bamby Salcedo, Amos Mac, Nicole Maines And Shane Ortega

Today, there are more openly trans people than ever before, but many trans Americans still contend with discrimination, criminalization, suicide and violence.

Directed by acclaimed portrait photographer and filmmaker Timothy Greenfield-Sanders (HBO's "The Black List," "The Out List" and "The Latino List," among others) and featuring interviews and an introduction by Janet Mock, THE TRANS LIST shines a light on prominent members of the transgender community.

Featuring such outspoken subjects as Kylar Broadus, Caroline Cossey, Amos Mac, Bamby Salcedo, Buck Angel, Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, Nicole Maines, Shane Ortega, Caitlyn Jenner, Alok Vaid-Menon and Laverne Cox, who share their insights on the fight for equality and their own struggles and accomplishments, the film debuts MONDAY, DEC. 5 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO.

Other HBO playdates: Dec. 8 (4:20 p.m., 4:10 a.m.), 11 (12:45 p.m.), 13 (2:15 p.m.), 15 (12:50 a.m.), 21 (10:30 a.m.) and 24 (4:30 p.m.)

HBO2 playdates: Dec. 13 (8:00 p.m.), 17 (1:20 p.m.) and 21 (11:05 p.m.)

The documentary will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and affiliate portals.

THE TRANS LIST profiles a diverse group of 11 transgender individuals who tell their stories in their own words, addressing identity, family, career, love, struggle and accomplishment.

Subjects include (in order of appearance):

Kylar Broadus, a lawyer who grew up in a small religious town in rural Missouri and made history as the first trans person to testify before the U.S. Senate.

Caroline Cossey, a successful British model in the '70s who appeared in a James Bond film and in Playboy, and was outed by a tabloid in 1981.

Amos Mac, a photographer, artist and writer, who moved to San Francisco and created the zine Original Plumbing, which focused on the stories of trans men.

Bamby Salcedo, founder of the TransLatin Coalition, who mobilized after the 2002 murder of transgender teen Gwen Araujo.

Buck Angel, an adult film star who was depressed and suicidal until he found the right therapist and a doctor who worked with trans people.

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, an activist who participated in the Stonewall riots, and laments that the trans community has been largely left behind in the wake of gay- and lesbian-rights advances following that historic 1969 uprising.

Nicole Maines, a student and activist who started her transition in fifth grade, and became the plaintiff in a lawsuit that determined that her school violated her human rights by denying her access to the girls' bathroom.

Shane Ortega, a U.S. Army Sergeant who has served three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Though his military entry form still lists him as female, he has been legally male for five years, and is recognized as male by his Army peers.

Caitlyn Jenner, perhaps the most famous trans woman in the world, says she doesn't think of herself as a trans spokesperson, but would like to see more opportunities for trans people to tell their stories.

Alok Vaid-Menon, a non-binary writer, performance artist and activist who believes gender is fluid.

Laverne Cox, an Emmy(R)-nominated actress who offers encouragement and reflects on the struggles faced by trans people.

Simultaneously, The Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles is presenting "IDENTITY: Timothy Greenfield-Sanders The List Portraits," a special exhibition in which the renowned photographer's "List Series" portfolios ("The Black List," "The Latino List," "The Women's List" and "The Out List") will be shown together for the first time, along with "The Trans List" portraits, through February 2017.

THE TRANS LIST was directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders; interviews by Janet Mock; executive producers, Ingrid Duran, Catherine Pino, Chad Thompson and Tommy Walker; producers, Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, Sam McConnell and Janet Mock; editor, Johanna Giebelhaus. For HBO: supervising producer, Lisa Heller; executive producer Sheila Nevins.
