Cutting-Edge Cops And Criminals Square Off In New Science Channel Series Outlaw Tech
PREMIERING WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26 AT 10PM ET/PT
(New York) - State of the art science, thrilling suspense, unforgettable characters. These are the true stories of a new wild west, where biology, physics, chemistry, and technology are tools of the outlaw trade. With complex security systems designed to stop the world's most nefarious criminal masterminds, a new Science Channel series goes inside amazing capers to unpack the high-tech arsenal used on both sides of the law. OUTLAW TECH premieres Wednesday, April 26 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Each of the six, hour-long episodes, features cat and mouse escapades with science at the center, as it is used to hack our banks, museums, casinos, prisons and more. From the physics of defeating heat sensors, to the complex code that cracked thousands of ATMs, to the epic engineering that allowed El Chapo to escape his maximum security prison, OUTLAW TECH takes us step by step through a battle royale of brilliant outlaw science versus cutting-edge security systems and tried and true investigation techniques.
"Outlaw Tech is a fascinating look at how rogue science has completely transformed the underworld and the unbelievable work that law enforcement officials are doing to try to stay one step ahead of their criminal counterparts," said Marc Etkind, General Manager, Science Channel.
The premiere episode delves into the high-tech security measures in U.S. currency, and the advanced "super-note," a $100 counterfeit bill, that nearly fooled everyone until FBI Operation Smoking Dragon cracked the case. We also meet a modern-day Jesse James who robbed banks of millions without setting foot into a branch by using only computers and cell phones as weapons. And lastly, we learn the chemistry behind the poisoning of a Russian dissident in London.
Among other crimes investigated in OUTLAW TECH this season are a $100 million diamond heist that defied surveillance and high tech locks, a narco sub used to transport 16,000 pounds of cocaine without being noticed by sonar, and a cyber scheme deployed by gangsters to defraud the Medicare system of $100 million.
OUTLAW TECH is produced by CMJ Productions for Science Channel. John Kuyk, Judith Beauchemin are executive producers for CMJ. Lindsey Foster-Blumberg is producer for Science Channel.
