ALIENIST, THE (TNT) - Michael Ironside has been cast as J.P. Morgan, "the famous American financier and banker who wielded great power in NYC at the turn of the century," in the upcoming drama. (Deadline.com)
ASCENDANT (Starz, New!) - Writer Adam Cozad and director Lee Toland Krieger are spearheading a small screen take on Veronica Roth's book-turned-film franchise "Divergent." Said duo were previously attached to the fourth installment of said films, which has since been shelved. No specifics about the TV incarnation were given. Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate Television are producing. (Deadline.com)
BLACKLIST, THE (NBC) - Aida Turturro and Michael Aronov are both set to recur on the upcoming season. She'll play Hawkins, "the brilliant accountant for an unusual business who has saved her own skin by cutting a deal with the Feds against a former business partner she absolutely loathes." He's then set as Smokey Putnum, "an expert in the art and science of logistics who once managed the travel arrangements of a magnificent, yet unusual, business, but has since fallen on hard times, currently on the run and accused of embezzling over $2 million." (EW.com)
DEADLIER THAN THE MALE (TNT) - Amy Brenneman and Ashley Madekwe have both joined the cast of the drama pilot. The former will play Mary, "who after years of searching for her missing daughter, has become a professional grieving mother. On one hand, her loss has made her a passionate advocate for vulnerable women, but on the other, the tragedy has given her new power and polish - as well as a ruthless streak that makes her a threat to anyone who stands in her way." The latter then is set as Lisa, "Pete's (Enrique Murciano) younger wife. Pete was her therapist at one point, but Lisa found the shift from patient to partner marginalizing. When she starts to suspect Pete of having an affair, her own demons of distrust and paranoia begin to resurface." (Deadline.com)
HOOTEN AND THE LADY (The CW) - Network chief Mark Pedowitz has confirmed the series will not be getting a second season. (TheWrap.com)
MIAMI VICE (NBC, New!) - Peter Macmanus is spearheading a TV reboot of the signature 1980s action crime drama about "two Metro-Dade Police Department detectives working undercover in Miami." Vin Diesel and Shana Waterman of One Race Television as well as Chris Morgan and Ainsley Davies of Chris Morgan Productions are also expected to executive produce for Universal Television. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED ORIGINALS SPIN-OFF (The CW, New!) - Hope Mikaelson, the tribrid daughter of Niklaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall-Kenner, is being eyed for a potential spin-off of the series, which wraps its run after five seasons next year. "There's been many discussions about the character Hope," Mark Pedowitz told reporters at the TCA Summer Press Tour. "I'm very interested if she wishes to do it in 'The Vampire Diaries' universe." Julie Plec would presumably executive produce for Warner Bros. Television. Danielle Rose Russell will play the teenage incarnation of the character this season. (Deadline.com)
WHO WAS? SHOW, THE (Netflix) - Hayley Tju, Adam Hochstetter, Lilla Crawford, Bentley Green, Zach Timson and Kirrille Berger have been tapped as the leads of the upcoming historical comedy sketch series. Additionally, Andy Daly "will play the role of a meddlesome TV executive in each episode." (Deadline.com)
