FOUR-PART DOCUMENTARY EVENT "THE DEFIANT ONES" WINS IDA DOCUMENTARY AWARD FOR BEST LIMITED SERIES
The HBO four-part documentary event THE DEFIANT ONES was recently honored by the International Documentary Association at its 33rd annual IDA Documentary Awards in the category of Best Limited Series.
Debuting this past July, THE DEFIANT ONES tells the stories of Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre - one the son of a Brooklyn longshoreman, the other straight out of Compton. Director Allen Hughes made an unquestionably bold film about their unlikely but unbreakable partnership and surprising leading roles in a series of transformative events in contemporary culture.
THE DEFIANT ONES was hailed as "dazzling and definitive" by the Washington Post and "deeply engrossing" by the Los Angeles Times, while the Hollywood Reporter called it "illuminating and entertaining" and "brilliant."
The documentary recently received a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Music Film.
THE DEFIANT ONES is an HBO presentation of a Silverback 5150 Pictures Production in association with Alcon Television Group; executive producers, Allen Hughes, Doug Pray, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Jerry Longarzo, Michael Lombardo and Gene Kirkwood; written by Allen Hughes, Lasse Jarvi, Doug Pray; edited by Lasse Jarvi, Doug Pray; music composed by Atticus Ross, Leopold Ross, Claudia Sarne; producers, Sarah Anthony, Steven Williams, Fritzi Horstman; directed by Allen Hughes.
