"54 HOURS" TO LAUNCH EXCLUSIVELY ON SUNDANCE NOW IN THE U.S. AND CANADA STARTING THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6th

The Gripping Four-Part Hostage Drama, Based on the True Story of a 1988 German Bank Heist Gone Awry, will be Available to Stream All At Once

New York, NY - August 27, 2018 - Sundance Now, AMC Networks' direct-to-consumer SVOD service curated with high-quality dramas and crime thrillers, announced today that it will begin streaming "54 Hours," a gripping, four-part hostage drama starting Thursday, September 6th. Based on a 1988 German bank robbery that went wildly wrong, the series stars Sascha Alexander Gersak, Alexander Scheer, Johannes Allmayer, Marie Rosa Tietjen, Amelie Kiefer, Ulrich Noethen, and Albrecht Abraham Schuch and will be available to binge all at once.

Based on the 1988 Gladbeck hostage crisis, one of the biggest crimes in postwar German history, "54 Hours" begins with a simple bank robbery. While fleeing from the police, the two gangsters take an entire busload hostage, and the ensuing manhunt turns into a disaster. The police make fools of themselves with their amateurish operations and, above all, are obstructed by the nation's media who swoop down on the events in their rat race for the juiciest pictures and live interviews with the kidnappers. As Rsner (Gersak), the driving force of the duo, orchestrates their 54 hours of fame in cold blood, his accomplice Degowski (Scheer) derives sinister pleasure from manipulating the media. But Degowski is also unpredictable and violent. When he kills a teenage passenger in the bus, the two men choose two young women as their hostages while leaping into another getaway vehicle. Thus, begins a 54-hour odyssey that goes completely out of control.

"54 Hours" is directed and written by Kilian Riedhof. The series is also written by Holger Karsten Schmidt and produced by Matthias Adler.
