AMERICAN SOUL (BET) - The cable channel's Don Cornelius (played by Sinqua Walls) docudrama has cast Jason Dirden as Gerald Aims, "an established gangster and club owner who hasn't lost the hustle"; Iantha Richardson as Tessa Lauren, "the fearless dance coordinator for Soul Train"; Christopher Jefferson as Julius "JT" Tucker, "a natural-born music producer who can play everything from Bootsie to Bach"; Katlyn Nichol as Simon Clarke, "a wide-eyed dream-chaser who's bound and determined to find fame in the world of music"; and Jelani Winston as Kendall Clarke, "a teenaged dad toeing the line between being a player and the responsibilities of adulthood." (Deadline.com)
GODFATHER OF HARLEM (Epix) - Vincent D'Onofrio has been cast in the Forest Whitaker-led period drama as Vincent "Chin" Gigante, "a former professional boxer, who is considered dimwitted and who works his way from enforcer/hitman to top boss of the Genovese crime family. He feigns a low IQ and even insanity to confound his rivals and avoid prosecution, but it's all a cover for a razor-sharp criminal mind. Vincent is "new generation" Mafia, entirely comfortable with peddling drugs. Like his nemesis Bumpy Johnson, his Achilles' heel is his troubled, rebellious young daughter." (THR.com)
GOTHAM (FOX) - Shane West has been cast in the final season as Eduardo Dorrance, "an old Army buddy of Jim Gordon's (Ben McKenzie). Having lost touch with Jim after the war, Dorrance returns to Gotham years later, leading a team of elite soldiers with the goal of helping Gordon restore order to No Man's Land. But as the scales fall from Gordon's eyes, he realizes Dorrance's true intentions in Gotham are much darker and more evil than he could have believed." (Deadline.com)
JUST LIKE US (CBS, New!) - Debby Wolfe ("One Day at a Time") has landed a potential multi-camera family comedy at the Eye about "a widower who takes in his teenage El Salvadorian niece while still raising his two grown daughters, retired parents and running the restaurant he started with his late wife." GloNation's Gloria Calderon Kellett and Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment's Marc Provissiero are executive producing for Sony Pictures Television with Wolfe as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)
NCIS: NEW ORLEANS (CBS) - Geoffrey Owens will visit the veteran drama as Commander Adams, "an old and valued friend who Pride (Scott Bakula) goes to for both medical and spiritual advice. Still emotionally reeling following his brush with death in the season finale/season premiere, Pride consults Adams about what could be causing his current symptoms and what his next course of action should be." (Deadline.com)
SHAMELESS (Showtime) - Jess Gabor, Luis Guzmán and Bob Saget are the latest faces bound for the new season as Kelly Keefe, "the tough-as-nails daughter of an Army officer and West Point alumnus, who takes over the life of Carl (Ethan Cutkosky)"; Mikey O'Shea, "a fellow lush and contender in an ad campaign competition to find the new face of Hobo Loco, a cheap liquor aimed at fraternities and alcoholics"; and Father D'Amico, "a priest Kev (Steve Howey) and V (Shanola Hampton) have to answer to when they run into show-and-tell trouble with the nuns at their twins' local Catholic pre-school," respectively. (Deadline.com)
SMILF (Showtime) - Melanie Griffith, Sherie Rene Scott, Claudia O'Doherty and Dan Aid have all landed roles on the show's sophomore run. Griffith will play Enid, "the free-spirited mother of Nelson (Samara Weaving)"; with Scott as "Jackie Bridgette's (Frankie Shaw) aunt and Tutu's (Rosie O'Donnell) sister"; O'Doherty as "Nelson's cynical sister, who is simultaneously disapproving and a little jealous of Nelson's glossy lifestyle"; and Aid as Hank, "a high-school classmate of Bridgette's who is now a tattoo artist." (THR.com)
STAR (FOX) - Terrence J and Lyndie Greenwood have both landed recurring role on the series as Ryan French, "a celebrity host who has a big following, but he wants to use his platform to effect social change"; and Megan Jetter, "stunning and sophisticated, friendly yet fearless, she is a lawyer who just set up her own firm back in town," respectively. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED JESSICA GAO PROJECT (ABC, New!) - Newly minted Emmy winner Jessica Gao ("Rick & Morty") has sold a single-camera comedy to the Alphabet about "a first generation Chinese-American woman who struggles to set healthy boundaries with her crazy, exhausting family. When her wealthy grandmother dies and names Janet the sole inheritor, she suddenly finds herself the unwilling new matriarch of the family she's spent her life trying to keep at arm's length." Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo and Samie Kim Falvey of Imagine Television will also executive produce the CBS Television Studios-based project, which has a penalty attached. (Deadline.com)
