DARK TOWER, THE (Amazon) - Sam Strike has been cast as Roland Deschain in the long-in-the-works small screen take on Stephen King's book series-turned-featured film, which "will take place many years before the events depicted in the feature." Said casting is reportedly in anticipation of a formal pilot order from the streaming service. Additionally, Jasper Pääkkönen "is believed to be playing Marten, the character Roland is out to kill." (Deadline.com)
HEART OF LIFE (ABC) - Comedian Nick Thune has been cast in the drama pilot, inspired by the John Mayer song of the same name. Thune will play Jimmy, "a wiry, aloof, singer/guitar player and aging rock star who drank too much, partied too much, and enjoys the lifestyle. But he's surprisingly sweet, thoughtful, and a good listener." (Deadline.com)
LOVESTRUCK (FOX) - Beth Riesgraf, Jeffery Self and Linda Park are the latest additions to the Steve Kazee/Rachel Bilson-led drama pilot, in which the entire first season takes place over the course of a single night at a wedding. Reisgraf will play Isabelle, "a rational, smart, affable beauty and mother trying to navigate a divorce and just wants the best for her son." Self then portrays Kevin, "an earnest, avuncular, gay accountant with a sense of humor and is a good friend." And Park is Kate: "She's a mellow and fun mom with an easygoing sensibility and loyal to her friends." (Deadline.com)
QUEEN OF THE SOUTH (USA) - Pepe Rapazote and Alimi Ballard are both slated to recur on the show's fourth season. Rapazote will play Raul "El Gordo" Rodriguez, "a Cuban drug dealer out of Miami who has ties to all the kingpins on the East Coast." Ballard then will portray Marcel Dumas, "a slick and measured Creole leader of a New Orleans street gang and owner of a hip jazz club." (Deadline.com)
RAVEN'S HOME (Disney Channel) - Eunetta T. Boone, showrunner of the Raven-Symoné-led comedy series, passed away suddenly from an apparent heart attack on Wednesday morning. "Eunetta Boone was a wonderful person and a consummate storyteller and teacher, and through her leadership on many productions including 'Raven's Home,' she did so well what she enjoyed most - mentoring creative talent," Disney Channel said in a statement. "Eunetta will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by everyone who knew her. All of us at Disney Channel grieve her passing and send our deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues." (Deadline.com)
RICHARD LOVELY (FOX) - Nicole Richie, Mason Schneiderman and Asif Ali are all bound for the Thomas Lennon-led comedy pilot, about the disgruntled author of the best-selling children's book series, who, after a publicity fiasco involving an unexpectedly conniving foster kid, is forced into an unlikely father/son relationship that will change his life forever. Richie will play Kelli, Richard's publicist, "a high-functioning millennial who is Richard's polar opposite in every way except one: they both like to keep their eyes on number one - themselves." Schneiderman then is said foster kid, Georgie, while Ali is Howard, "Richard's literary agent. He spends most of his time putting out fires that Richard has needlessly started." (Deadline.com)
UNINSURED (NBC) - Steven Weber will round out the principal cast of the multi-camera comedy pilot, about "young parents Dave (Adam Pally) and Rebecca (Abby Elliott), who end up having to take care of Dave's parents, Elliot (Weber) and Linda (Fran Drescher) who have mishandled their finances and need help to pay down a sizable debt." Weber's Elliot is "an upbeat salesman who knows too many facts about things you don't care about." (Deadline.com)
