NEVERS, THE (HBO) - Laura Donnelly is the first to be cast in Joss Whedon's upcoming drama, which spotlights a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies and a mission that might change the world. She'll play Amalia True, "the most reckless, impulsive, emotionally damaged hero of her time. A menace to stuffy Victorian society, she would die for the cause and kill for a drink." Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie co-wrote the script alongside Whedon, who will also direct the premiere. Bernie Caulfield likewise executive produces. (Deadline.com)
SHOWTIME (HBO, New!) - Writers Max Borenstein and Jim Hecht are set to team with director Adam McKay for a potential drama series at the pay channel "chronicling the professional and personal lives of the 1980s L.A. Lakers, one of sports' most revered and dominant dynasties - a team that defined its era, both on and off the court." The project, which has a pilot commitment, is based on Jeff Pearlman's book of the same name, subtitled "Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s." Production is scheduled to begin this summer with Kevin Messick and Jason Shuman also executive producing. (Deadline.com)
STRANGE ANGEL (CBSAA) - Laine Neil's Patty - "Susan's (Bella Heathcote) half-sister, a firebrand whose spirit apparently hasn't yet been broken by her domineering father" - has been promoted to regular for the series' second season. (Deadline.com)
