BRAIN TRUST (NBC, New!) - Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder are looking to team with Katie Lunskis on a potential drama at the Peacock about "a group of young grad students who have developed cutting-edge technology to project your mind into another person's body but they soon will learn that everything has consequences - some darker than they could have ever imagined." The project is set up at Universal Television with Charmelo, Snyder, Neil Meron, Lane Shefter Bishop and Mark Nicholson executive producing and Lunskis producing. (Deadline.com)
DEPUTY (FOX) - Danielle Moné Truitt has joined the cast of the midseason drama as Deputy Charlie Minnick. Said casting comes as Siena Goines, who plays Rachel Quinn, is behing written out post-pilot. (Deadline.com)
DETOUR, THE (TBS) - The cable channel has passed on ordering a fifth season of its comedy staple. (Deadline.com)
EINSTEIN (CBS, New!) - Writer Andy Breckman and director Randy Zisk are set to team for a domestic take on the German series, about "the brilliant but directionless great grandson of Albert Einstein, who spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor, until his bad boy antics land him in trouble with the law and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective solve her most puzzling cases." CBS Television Studios is behind the hour with James Baker, Bo Stehmeier, Shirley Bowers of Red Arrow Studios International; Tariq Jalil, Lucas Carter and Joe Wiggins of Intrigue Entertainment; and Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment also executive producing. Michael Reisz was behind a previous incarnation at NBC last season. (Deadline.com)
HOMECOMING (Amazon) - Chris Cooper has signed onto the show's second season as Leonard Geist, "an eccentric botanist who is more at home in his greenhouse than in the boardrooms of the company he created." (Deadline.com)
LORD OF THE RINGS, THE (Amazon) - Will Poulter is reportedly the second actor to be cast in the much-ballyhooed TV series. He'll join Markella Kavenagh in the top secret project. (Variety.com)
MS. PAT SHOW, THE (Hulu, New!) - The streaming service has commissioned a pilot for a new multi-camera comedy starring Patricia Williams (a.k.a. Mrs. Pat) and Bernard Calloway. The project, from Fox 21 Studios, Imagine Television and Lee Daniels Entertainment, originated at FOX in 2016 with Alyson Fouse and Ali LeRoi among the previous writers. Debbie Allen is directing the new take - about "a former convicted felon turned suburban mom (Ms. Pat), whose hustle and resilient spirit were forged on the streets of Atlanta" - from a script by Jordan E. Cooper. Calloway will play her husband. Williams, Cooper, Lee Daniels, Marc Velez, Pam Williams, Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo and Samie Kim Falvey are the executive producers with Jon Radler and Jahil Fisher producing. (Deadline.com)
RESIDENT, THE (FOX) - Kearran Giovanni, Geoffrey Cantor, Michael Paul Chan and Erinn Westbrook are all bound for the show's third season. Giovanni will play Andrea Braydon, "a fitness teacher who tries to find investors for her supplement product"; with Cantor as Zip, "the father of Grayson (Radek Lord), a wealthy, successful businessman who is sometimes neurotic and cloying"; Chan as Yee Austin, "Austin's (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) adoptive father and co-owner of Yee's Chinese Restaurant"; and Westbrook as Adaku Eze, "Mina's (Shaunette Renée Wilson) strong-willed friend with an adventurous spirit." ROYALTIES (Quibi) - Tony Revolori, Georgia King and John Stamos are all bound for the Darren Criss/Kether Donohue-led comedy series. No details were given about their roles. (Deadline.com)
TESTAMENTS, THE (Hulu, New!) - Margaret Atwood's upcoming "The Handmaid's Tale" sequel is being developed for television by the streaming service and producer MGM Television. Showrunner Bruce Miller is expected to be involved in the adaptation, which "picks up more than fifteen years after Offred's final scene in The Handmaid's Tale novel, and is narrated by three female characters." UNTITLED DAVID SLACK PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Writer David Slack and director Phillip Noyce have sold a new drama to the Peacock about "an enigmatic billionaire who has gathered more than 250 people who have attempted to cheat death by having their bodies frozen in hopes that a future breakthrough would someday allow them to be brought back to life. However, as these people from different moments in time wake up, they soon realize you can't cheat death without paying a price." Josh Berman and Chris King of the Sony Pictures Television-based Osprey Productions will also executive produce. (Deadline.com)
