Composer: Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown (The Bridges of Madison Country, Parade) will compose new music.
Writer: Tony Award winner Robert Horn (Tootsie the Musical, Teen Beach Movie) will adapt the script based on the book he co-wrote with Dan Elish
Director: Tamra Davis (High School Musical: The Musical, Crossroads)
Logline: Young Evan Goldman grapples with his parents' divorce following a move from New York City to small-town Indiana, prepares for his impending Bar Mitzvah, and navigates the complicated social circles of a new school.
The Broadway show featured the first and only all-teenager cast and band and served as professional debuts of Ariana Grande and Elizabeth Gillies. The musical has since been a popular production of high school theater groups.
Casting director Bernie Telsey has also come on board to begin a worldwide search for 13 pre-teen triple threats with veteran Broadway experience.
Production is slated to commence in August.
Following American Son and Springsteen on Broadway, Netflix continues to bolster both their slate of broadway adaptations with Ryan Murphy's The Prom and Boys in the Band and Lin-Manuel Miranda's tick...tick...Boom!
The film also joins Netflix's growing slate of live action family films featuring kids and teens, which includes the 2019 comedy Tall Girl, directed by Nzingha Stewart as well as upcoming 2020 films Feel the Beat, directed by Elissa Down; The Main Event directed by Jay Karas and produced in partnership with WWE Studios; The Sleepover directed by Trish Sie; A Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting directed by Rachel Talalay and Finding Ohana directed by Jude Weng.
