FAITH-BASED MUSICAL FILM "A WEEK AWAY" LANDS AT NETFLIX

Netflix has acquired global rights to the faith-friendly musical A Week Away

Director: Roman White

White has been nominated for eleven Emmy awards and has taken home three in addition to winning an MTV Music Video Award for his work with artists such as Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwood.

Writers: Kali Bailey, Alan Powell

"A Week Away" was born out of an original idea by actor/musician/writer Alan Powell

Producers: Steve Barnett, Alan Powell, Gabe Vasquez

Executive Producer: Vicky Patel

Co-Executive Producer: Corby Pons

Co-Producer: Roman White

Associate Producer: Bailee Madison

Choreographers: Paul Becker (Descendants, Adventures in Babysitting) and Melena Rounis

Cast: Bailee Madison (Hallmark's The Good Witch), Kevin Quinn (Adventures in Babysitting, BUNK'D), Sherri Shepherd (Ride Along 2) and David Koechner (Anchorman, The Office) and newcomers Jahbril Cook, Kat Conner Sterling, and Iain Tucker.

Logline: Troubled teen Will Hawkins (Quinn) has a run-in with the law that puts him at an important crossroad: go to juvenile detention or attend a Christian summer camp. At first a fish-out-of-water, Will opens his heart, discovers love with a camp regular (Madison), and sense of belonging in the last place he expected to find it.

Quote from Alan Powell: "We made a film designed to entertain while exploring universal themes of family, friendship and acceptance. There is no better time than right now, and no better partner on the planet than Netflix, to help share that message."

Quote from Steve Barnett: "We are grateful for the hard work by everyone involved in A Week Away and very proud of the film we made together. We couldn't be more excited that the film will have the opportunity to put a smile on millions of faces."

Music: The film features reimagined songs from some of the biggest hits in Contemporary Christian Music history. In addition to these tracks, the film's music producer, Adam Watts (High School Musical 3, Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert), has penned three new original songs for the film. As songwriter and producer, Watts has contributed to over 50 million albums sold worldwide across mainstream and CCM industries. Watts has also won three Dove Awards and an ASCAP Pop Award. Powell and Cory Clark also worked closely with Watts in writing and producing the music. The original score was created by Benjamin Backus.

The film was shot in Nashville, Tennessee.

A Week Away will join Netflix's growing slate of live action family films featuring kids and teens, which includes the 2019 comedy Tall Girl, directed by Nzingha Stewart (Little Fires Everywhere, Grey's Anatomy) as well as 2020 films The Main Event, directed by Jay Karas (Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife, Break Point) and produced in partnership with WWE Studios; Feel the Beat, directed by Elissa Down (The Honor List) and starring Sofia Carson; The Sleepover, directed by Trish Sie (Pitch Perfect, Step Up All In); and Finding Ohana, directed by Jude Weng (Fresh Off the Boat, Good Place).

About Monarch Media

Silicon Valley investor/philanthropist Vicky L. Patel, veteran film producer Steve Barnett, and multihyphenate Alan Powell have partnered to launch the new film and television production company Monarch Media, which includes its own film fund to develop and produce multiple feature projects each year. The trio has structured Monarch to finance, develop and produce 2-3 feature films a year in all genres and various budget levels, as well as making a push into developing television series and live event/theatrical properties. Patel has deep history with Google dating back to before it went public in 2004 and she remains a major stockholder today. In addition to her investment in Monarch's film and television business, Patel owns a Nashville-based record label and is financing and producing an animated series. Despite her interest in entertainment, Patel's biggest passion is the fight to cure Alzheimer's through her strong support of the Alzheimer's Association and research to fight the disease.

Actor/musician/writer/producer Powell started his career in the entertainment industry as a musician and producer when he started the band Anthem Lights. After transitioning from Sony Music, Powell spearheaded the launching of the band's own label and in just three years built that company into a multi-million dollar business with millions of fans globally. Powell then moved into film with the lead role of "The Song," went on to act in a number of films and TV shows before ultimately landing a series regular role on ABC's "Quantico."

Barnett has produced films for more than two decades, with his projects generating more than $1 Billion at the worldwide box office. In addition to "A Week Away," Barnett recently produced "Come Away," starring Angelina Jolie and David Oyelowo, and directed by Brenda Chapman ("Brave"), which premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Among the other notable films Barnett has produced is Zack Snyder's ground-breaking "300," Paramount's family adventure "The Spiderwick Chronicles" and the acclaimed independent film "Priceless" with the six-time Grammy Award winning band for King and Country.
