The pact gives the studio first crack at her and Christine Conley's newly launched banner TPH Entertainment's output. Already in the works is a spin-off series focused on her Cookie Lyon character. Danny Strong, Stacy A. Littlejohn and Yolonda Lawrence are set to pen the pilot script with Sanaa Hamri attached to direct with said group executive producing alongside Lee Daniels, Brian Grazer and Samie Falvey. (Deadline.com)
HIS DARK MATERIALS (HBO) - The show's second season will be seven episodes after filming on a planned eighth installment - a standalone story starring James McAvoy as Lord Asriel - was derailed by the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is set to voice the dæmon of Andrew Scott's Colonel John Parry while Terence Stamp, Jade Anouka and Simone Kirby have booked on-camera roles. Stamp will play Giacomo Paradisi, "the bearer of the Subtle Knife who lives in the Torre de Angeli (Tower of the Angels) in Cittàgazze"; with Anouka as witch queen Ruta Skadi, "who joins forces with Serafina Pekkala against the Magisterium"; and Kirby as Mary Malone, "the head of a Dark Matter Research Team at an Oxford University in our world." Their roles however were not specified. (Deadline.com)
POWER BOOK II: GHOST (Starz) - Shalim Ortiz will recur on the upcoming spin-off series as Danilo Ramirez, "an NYPD officer stationed in the Tejadas' backyard of Queens, NY. Ramirez will find himself torn between the duties of his badge and duty to the ones he loves." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED ALLEN & PARR PROJECT (Hulu, New!) - Tom Allen and J.T. Parr have set up a potential animated series at the streaming service about "two perpetually stoked surfer bros born ahead of their time try to navigate teenage life in Ancient Greece while showing their Greek God dads that there is more than one way to be a legend." 20th Century Fox Television and 3 Arts Entertainment are behind the project with John Chernin, Dave Chernin, Nicholas Frenkel, Luke Dillon, Luke Maxwell and Trevor Rotenberg also executive producing. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED BRYAN CALLEN/CHRIS D'ELIA PROJECT (Netflix, New!) - A streaming service will not proceed with a proposed prank show featuring Bryan Callen and Chris D'Elia after the latter comedian was "accused of sexual impropriety by multiple women." The project was "to focus on the relationship between the two comics and their affinity for pulling high jinks." (LATimes.com)
