Los Angeles, CA (October 1, 2021) - A breast cancer diagnosis doesn't mean the end of your life. With research and advances in care, more and more women are discovering a new beginning, like metastatic breast cancer thriver, Shannen Doherty. As part of Lifetime's annual Stop Breast Cancer for Life public affairs initiative, Doherty, who stars alongside Kelly Hu, Sylvia Kwan and Patricia Velasquez in the touching film, List of a Lifetime, directed her costars in a special content message in support of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), reminding women that early detection is key and to get their mammograms today.
To further support this commitment, A+E Networks also announced a donation of $250,000 to BCRF. In an extension of the partnership, BCRF has also named a Lifetime Award, an annual grant in support of a leading breast cancer researcher.
This year's campaign also features First Lady Jill Biden in a new PSA to encourage women to put their breast health on the top of their "to do list." The PSA will run on air and on Lifetime's social platforms. Dr. Biden's advocacy for more breast cancer education and prevention began in 1993, when four of her friends were diagnosed with breast cancer. Following that year, she launched the Biden Breast Health Initiative to educate Delaware high school girls about the importance of early detection. As First Lady, Dr. Biden continues to stress the importance of cancer research and early detection efforts, especially in underrepresented and rural areas.
"Lifetime's Stop Breast Cancer for Life initiative is deeply personal for so many women and their families who have been affected by breast cancer," said Paul Buccieri, President and Chairman, A+E Networks Group. "We are dedicated to using our platforms and partnerships to raise awareness, encourage women to get their mammograms, and mobilize support for research so that together we can eradicate breast cancer for future generations."
"In partnering with the largest private funders of breast cancer research in the world, Lifetime is making a tangible impact on advancing research," said BCRF President and CEO Myra Biblowit. "By using their platform to amplify evidence-based research and education, they are undoubtedly helping to empower women with critical knowledge."
Presented by Native Deodorant, List of a Lifetime premieres October 10th at 8pm ET/PT and tells the story of Brenda Lee (Hu) who's prompted to look for the daughter she gave up for adoption decades ago after a breast cancer diagnosis. After finding Talia (Kwan) and sharing her devasting news, Talia convinces Brenda to make a bucket list of everything she wants to do, promising to help her complete everything on the list. While keeping Brenda a secret from her adoptive mother Diana (Doherty), Talia grows closer to the mother she never knew. Meanwhile, Brenda discovers a meaningful relationship with Talia she didn't know she needed, and a reason to fight for her life.
Following the movie, the aftershow Beyond the List with Shannen Doherty will debut, featuring exclusive conversations with Doherty and the movie's cast, new never-before-seen photos during Doherty's breast cancer journey, as well as information from top oncologists Dr. Elise Port and Dr. Philomena McAndrew. The aftershow also features intimate testimonials from within the A+E Networks family featuring employees affected by breast cancer.
The special content will begin airing today, October 1, to kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and run throughout the month on Lifetime and LMN and extended off channel through distributor partnerships. The special content will also be shared on Lifetime's social media platforms and on Mylifetime.com which will also feature breast cancer resources, treatment plan guides, doctor check lists, facts about breast cancer, and stories of survivors and thrivers.
The campaign also features four breast cancer themed movies available on VOD during October. The inspiring stories of resilience, courage and strength include the biopic Olivia Newton John: Hopelessly Devoted to You, detailing Olivia's personal battle with breast cancer, Four Extraordinary Woman about one man's emotional as four loved ones battle breast cancer, Living Proof executive produced by Renee Zellweger and starring Harry Connick Jr. as Dr. Slamon who helped develop the breakthrough drug Herceptin that helps cure positive cancers and Five, a collection of five interwoven short films exploring the impact of breast cancer directed by Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Alicia Keyes, Patty Jenkins and Penelope Spheeris.
In addition, as part of this year's campaign, the Lifetime Store is donating 15% of each purchase to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation all month long. https://www.lifetimetvstore.com/
