[02/24/22 - 11:22 PM] Development Update: Thursday, February 24 By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC) |
|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
BIG SKY (ABC) - Bernard White is the latest set to recur on the series as Verr Bhullar, "the refined, watchful patriarch of the powerful Bhullar drug cartel. By turns distant, judgmental, and tender, he's impossible to please, much to the ire of his two children-lieutenants, Ren and Jag. After abruptly and mysteriously deciding to move operations from Canada to Montana, Veer must reckon with his unruly kids, his unraveling sanity and the future of his criminal empire." (Deadline.com)
CAL FIRE (CBS) - Max Thieriot will step in front of the camera on the firefighter drama pilot, closing a deal to star as young convict Bode Donovan: "Bode had so much promise and then life knocked him down. He has the soul of an artist, the rap sheet of a criminal and the audacity to believe in a second chance with Cal Fire. Bode is driven by misplaced guilt, but he can't wallow in his past. Because the present hit him right in the face." The actor, who co-wrote the project with Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, does not have a deal to return for "SEAL Team's" recently ordered sixth season. It's understood however all parties hope to allow him to do both projects in some capacity should the pilot be ordered to series. (Deadline.com)
EARLY EDITION (REBOOT SERIES) (CBS) - Executive producer DeVon Franklin has signed a multi-year overall deal with CBS Studios. There he'll continue to develop series projects via his Franklin Entertainment banner. (Deadline.com)
GOOD TROUBLE (Freeform) - Yasmine Aker will recur on the upcoming fourth season as Angelica, "a queer waitress who navigates her way through a complicated new relationship with Malika (Zuri Adele) while dealing with the fallout of her last relationship." She takes over the role from Odelya Halevi, who is now a series regular in NBC's "Law & Order" revival. (Deadline.com)
GREY'S ANATOMY (ABC) - Richard Flood, who plays Cormac Hayes, is exiting the series after three seasons. His final episode airs next week. (Deadline.com)
HUNGRY (NBC) - Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias and Ryan McPartlin have both been cast in the Demi Lovato-led multi-camera comedy pilot, which has also added James Burrows as director. Iglesias will play Danny, "a big-hearted big guy who's the life of the party"; while McPartlin will portray Justin, "the group's leader." Both are presumably recastings: Jay Klaitz was previously cast as Danny; while Christian Magby had been set as the support group's leader, then named Jared. (Deadline.com)
JUSTIFIED: CITY PRIMEVAL (FX) - Quentin Tarantino is reportedly in early talks to direct one or two episodes of the revival series. (Deadline.com)
LEGACIES (The CW) - Piper Curda is slated to recur on the series as Jen, "a wildcard with a knack for mechanics who uses her slacker, stoner vibes to hide a complicated past that comes with more secrets than she's willing to share." She'll debut on tonight's installment. (Deadline.com)
POWER BOOK III: RAISING KANAN (Starz) - Michael Rispoli and Paloma Guzman are the latest bound for the prequel series. Rispoli will portray Sal Boselli, "the powerful, charismatic, Italian mob boss of Newark, New Jersey." And Guzman is set as Regina Foyle, "a veteran NYPD detective with a sensitive yet rugged side. She's a contradiction in all the best ways." (Deadline.com)
