JASON GARRETT JOINS "FOOTBALL NIGHT IN AMERICA"
Football Night Kicks Off Every Sunday During the NFL Season at 7 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock
STAMFORD, Conn. - June 14, 2022 - Jason Garrett is joining Football Night in America as an analyst, NBC Sports announced today. Football Night is the most-watched studio show in sports, preceding primetime television's No. 1 show Sunday Night Football each week during the NFL season on NBC and Peacock.
Garrett, the former NFL quarterback and Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys, will work with host Maria Taylor and analysts Tony Dungy and Chris Simms in Studio 1 at NBC Sports' International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Conn. Co-host Jac Collinsworth and analyst Rodney Harrison will once again anchor FNIA's coverage from the game site, while NFL Insider Mike Florio will continue to report on the news of the day.
As the Cowboys Head Coach for nine seasons, Garrett won three division titles, Associated Press Coach of the Year in 2016, and compiled an 85-67 (.559) regular-season record, the second-most wins for a Head Coach in team history. He began his coaching career as the Quarterbacks Coach for the Miami Dolphins under Nick Saban. He also served as the Offensive Coordinator for both the Cowboys and New York Giants.
Prior to becoming a coach, Garrett had a 14-year NFL playing career with the Cowboys, Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dolphins, and New Orleans Saints, predominantly as a backup quarterback. He was part of three Super Bowl-winning teams with the Cowboys in 1992, 1993 and 1995, and was a member of the NFC Champion Giants in 2000.
Garrett is currently making his broadcasting debut as a game analyst alongside Jac Collinsworth (play-by-play) on NBC Sports' coverage of the USFL. Click here for more information on Jason Garrett.
"I'm truly humbled and thrilled to be joining the Football Night team and continuing my broadcasting career with NBC Sports, who have been fantastic to work with on the USFL," said Garrett. "I intend to share my life-long passion for football and utilize my experience as both an NFL coach and quarterback to try to explain the game and break down the matchups for our audience every Sunday night. Can't wait to get started!"
NBC Sports Executive Producer Sam Flood: "Jason was always a great listen at our NFL production meetings with the Cowboys. His insight and intellect are a winning combination. We are excited to add him to the FNIA team. In his brief time as an analyst on our USFL broadcasts, he already breaks down plays in a welcoming style that gives unique insights about the 'why' of a play -- Why did it work? Why did it fail?"
NBC Sports today also announced Matt Casey as the lead producer of Football Night. Casey has worked on FNIA in various capacities for 14 years, most recently as co-producer. He also co-produced NBC Sports' Super Bowl LVI pre-game show in February.
Emmy-nominated Football Night begins at 7 p.m. ET each week during the NFL regular season on NBC and Peacock and provides highlights and analysis of the afternoon games, interviews with high-profile players and coaches, breaking news insights, and an extensive preview of that night's Sunday Night Football matchup.
Since its inception in 2006, Football Night has been the most-watched studio show in sports. In 2021, the program averaged 7.1 million viewers, up 18% vs. the previous season. In addition, the 8:00-8:23 p.m. ET portion of Football Night in America (including pre-kick coverage), averaged 11.9 million viewers, and a 3.3 rating among Adults 18-49, which would both rank No. 4 among regularly scheduled primetime shows in the demographic.
