Prime Video Orders New Drama, "Étoile," From Emmy Award-Winning Creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, Straight to Series
Series to star Luke Kirby, Camille Cottin, Simon Callow, Lou de Laâge, Gideon Glick, and David Alvarez
Series to be shot on location in Paris and New York
CULVER CITY, California - April 26, 2023 - Prime Video today announced a two season order of Étoile, a new eight-episode original series from Emmy-winning creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, who will write, direct, and executive produce. The series is set to star Emmy winner Luke Kirby (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Camille Cottin (Call My Agent!), Simon Callow (Outlander), Lou de Laâge (The Innocents), Gideon Glick (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and David Alvarez (West Side Story). Étoile will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Set in New York City and Paris, Étoile follows the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies, as they embark on an ambitious gambit to save their storied institutions by swapping their most talented stars.

From Amazon Studios, Étoile is executive produced by Amy Sherman-Palladino, Daniel Palladino, and Dhana Rivera Gilbert. Scott Ellis will serve as co-executive producer. The series was developed under Amazon Studios' overall deal with Sherman-Palladino and Palladino.
The fifth and final season of Sherman-Palladino and Palladino's most recent acclaimed series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, launched with three episodes on Prime Video on Friday, April 14. New episodes will continue to drop every week until the series finale on May 26.
Amy Sherman-Palladino began her career in the entertainment business as a staff writer on Roseanne during the show's third season, evolving into story editor and supervising producing posts. During her four seasons on Roseanne, Sherman-Palladino was nominated for Emmy and Writers Guild Awards and was honored with a Peabody. In 2000, Sherman-Palladino created the beloved television series Gilmore Girls, which ran for seven seasons and went on to become the WB's most popular series. As creator, writer, and executive producer, the show earned widespread critical acclaim, with TIME magazine listing Gilmore Girls among its "100 Best TV Shows of All Time." Among later projects for Sherman-Palladino was the ABC Family dance drama Bunheads, starring Sutton Foster, and, in 2016, the highly anticipated return of Gilmore Girls to Netflix as a four-part miniseries, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Sherman-Palladino served as executive producer, writer, and director alongside her husband and frequent collaborator, writer/producer/director Daniel Palladino. Currently, Sherman-Palladino is serving as creator, executive producer, director, and writer of the Prime Video series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The series has won 20 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series, and Sherman-Palladino made Emmy history with wins for both Comedy Writing and Comedy Directing. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has also earned six Critics Choice Awards, five SAG Awards, two PGA Awards, a WGA Award, and a Peabody Award.
Daniel Palladino broke into television in 1989 on the hit ABC series Who's the Boss? Palladino also spent two years on Roseanne, serving as executive producer. In 2000, he worked on the hit WB series Gilmore Girls, and eventually segued into directing. He went on to serve in producing and directing roles on Bunheads. Palladino was executive producer and showrunner of Family Guy for its initial two seasons, earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Animated Program for its debut season. In 2016, Palladino helped navigate the return of Gilmore Girls, serving as executive producer, writer, and director alongside series creator Sherman-Palladino. Currently, Palladino serves as executive producer and director on the Prime Video series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which has won 20 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series, three Golden Globes and six Critics Choice Awards, as well as a WGA Award and a Peabody Award. Palladino and Sherman-Palladino provided major underwriting support and served as co-producers on Roundabout Theatre Company's 2014 production of Violet, which was nominated for four Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical. He is a board member of New York City's Film Forum.
Luke Kirby is an Emmy-winning actor for his portrayal of Lenny Bruce in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Other TV roles include Gene Goldman in HBO's The Deuce and Spectrum's Panhandle, where he can currently be seen starring as the lead. Select film credits include Boston Strangler, No Man of God, Glass, A Dog's Purpose, and Take This Waltz, among many others. On stage, Luke starred in Odon von Horvath's critically acclaimed play, Judgement Day, at New York's Park Avenue Armory as well as Roundabout Theatre Company's Too Much, Too Much, Too Many.
Camille Cottin is a César-nominated French actress who has gained international recognition for her role in the hit French series Call My Agent!. Upcoming, Camille will be seen in Guy Nattiv's Golda. Last year, Camille was seen in Ridley Scott's biographical crime drama House of Gucci and prior to this, Camille starred in Stillwater. On television, Camille was most recently seen reprising her role as Hélène in the fourth and final season in the multi award-winning BBC America series Killing Eve. Camille also earned critical acclaim as lead of Canal+'s widely successful sketch comedy series Connasse as well as playing the lead role in the French adaptation of Fleabag. Camille was hailed by VANITY FAIR as one of the 50 most influential French people in the world and was included in VARIETY's 2021 list of 10 Actors to Watch. She currently resides in Paris.
Simon Callow created the role of Mozart in Peter Shaffer's Amadeus. His many one-man shows include The Mystery of Charles Dickens, Being Shakespeare, and A Christmas Carol. His films include A Room with a View, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare in Love, and The Phantom of the Opera. Television parts include the Duke of Sandringham in Outlander; as well as roles in Netflix's The Witcher and Marvel's Hawkeye. He directed the London and Broadway premieres of Shirley Valentine, Les Enfants du Paradis for the RSC, and Carmen Jones at the Old Vic, as well as the film of The Ballad of the Sad Café. He has written 20 books, including biographies of Oscar Wilde, Richard Wagner, Charles Laughton, and Charles Dickens. The fourth and final volume of his massive Orson Welles biography will appear in 2024.
Lou de Laâge started her career very young as a dancer. She made her acting debut at 17 years old and after her first nomination for César awards, she made her breakthrough with the film Breathe directed by Mélanie Laurent. In the following years she worked with renowned French directors and actors such as Juliette Binoche, Isabelle Huppert, Anne Fontaine, Mélanie Laurent, and many more. Lou was twice nominated for César awards and recently she was awarded the International Emmy Award for best actress in Mélanie Laurent's series The Mad Women's Ball. Lou is represented by Laura Meerson at Adequat.
Gideon Glick will next be seen opposite Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan in Bradley Cooper's Maestro. He has appeared in Noah Baumbach's White Noise and Marriage Story, Scott Cooper's The Pale Blue Eye, Gary Ross' Ocean's 8, Song One, and One Last Thing. On television, Glick is best known for his work on the hit Prime Video comedy series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, American Horror Story, The Detour, and Devious Maids. Since making his Broadway debut at 18, in the original cast of the groundbreaking musical Spring Awakening, Glick has had a lauded career in the theater. He was nominated for the 2019 Tony Award for Best Featured actor for his portrayal of Charles Baker "Dill" Harris in Aaron Sorkin's Broadway adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird, was nominated for a Drama League for his portrayal of Jordan Berman in the Broadway production of Significant Other, and starred as Seymour in the critically acclaimed production of Little Shop of Horrors. Glick is a published author and is currently writing on Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino's new Prime Video TV series, Étoile.
David Alvarez played the iconic role of Bernardo, the fearless leader of the Sharks, in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-nominated West Side Story. He won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance in Billy Elliot. He's a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.
