STAND UP TO CANCER'S EIGHTH ROADBLOCK TELEVISED FUNDRAISING SPECIAL, COMMEMORATING 15 YEARS OF IMPACT, RETURNS SATURDAY, AUGUST 19, 2023
The one-hour telecast will feature a new format and showcase Stand Up To Cancer's enduring impact at the forefront of innovative and life-saving cancer research
The celebration will air and stream in the U.S. on Saturday, August 19 at 8 p.m. ET and PT / 7 p.m. CT, on more than 55 participating media platforms. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will take part in the fundraising special alongside Elizabeth Banks, Jessica Biel, Don Cheadle, Katie Couric, Danai Gurira, Tony Hale, Ken Jeong, Queen Latifah, Maria Menounos, Julianne Moore, Tig Notaro, Jimmy Smits, Eric Stonestreet and Justin Timberlake. The telecast will feature a special montage of comedic skits from past shows including Jack Black, Ben Falcone, Zach Galifianakis, Brad Garrett, Bill Hader, Jon Hamm, Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Jay Leno, Melissa McCarthy, and Matthew McConaughey and past musical performances from the likes of Brittany Howard, Simone Ledward Boseman and The Who.
Over the course of one hour, the show, titled "How It Started, How It's Going," will celebrate 15 years of cutting-edge cancer research and highlight special moments with stars from film, television, sports and journalism who have supported the SU2C movement. The show will also feature renowned SU2C-funded cancer scientists, who will discuss the progress being made in the fight against cancer and the critical need to continue to fund life-saving research. In addition, there will be touching stories from cancer survivors who have received breakthrough treatments supported by SU2C.
Viewers can tune in to ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, American Heroes Channel, AMC+, Aspire TV, AXS, Destination America, Discovery Family, Discovery Life, ESPN News, Estrella TV, Fight Network, FS2, GalavisiĆ³n, Game+, HBO, HBO Latino, HD Net, IFC, Jewish Life Television, LATV, MGM+, Ovation, Pluto TV, Scripps News, Spectrum News, Starz, Tubi and UP TV.
The telecast will also be available on-demand on several streaming platforms spanning Disney+, Hulu, Max, Peacock, Showtime and more.
Additionally, the Los Angeles City Council will salute and celebrate SU2C by commemorating August 19, 2023 as "Stand Up To Cancer Day" in the City of Los Angeles. Because the fight against cancer is a vital grassroots movement of dedicated activism, the City treasures all involved in SU2C, and states that SU2C has made the City of Los Angeles a better place in which to live.
Finally, more than a dozen buildings and landmarks across the United States and Canada will be illuminated in a united show of support for the upcoming telecast. Participating buildings and landmarks include Electric Tower (New York, NY), Big Dam Bridge (Little Rock, AR), Los Angeles City Council (Los Angeles, CA), LAX Pylons (Los Angeles, CA), Rocky Hill's Town Hall (Rocky Hill, CT), CNL Center (Orlando, FL), 200 South Orange Tower (Orlando, FL), Rosemary Square/LED The Wishing Tree (West Palm Beach, FL), 1180 Peachtree Tower (Atlanta, GA), 999 Peachtree Building (Atlanta, GA), Eighth & Main (Boise, ID), Indiana Power and Light Building (Indianapolis, IN), MLK Jr. Memorial Bridge (Fort Wayne, IN), Flint Hills Discovery Center (Manhattan, KS), Boston City Hall (Boston, MA), US Bancorp Center (Minneapolis, MN) and Memorial Bridge (Portsmouth, NH). All will be lit in a combination of SU2C's signature colors: red, orange, yellow or white.
The telecast will be filmed at NeueHouse Hollywood in Los Angeles. NeueHouse is the private workspace and social club for members of the creative industries.
SU2C brings together the best and the brightest in the cancer community to help new therapies move from the laboratory to the patient quickly. By galvanizing the entertainment community, SU2C creates awareness and educates the public on cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment and raises funds to support these efforts.
