Quick Take for Tuesday, April 1, 2008 (Fast Affiliate Live + Same Day Ratings)

ABC Takes Second Place to Fox on Tuesday Among Total Viewers

Catapulting from its Lead-in, ABC's "DWTS Results" Wins the 9 O'clock Hour by 4.4 Million Viewers, Defeating Fox's "Idol"-Fueled Season Opener of "Hell's Kitchen"

"DWTS Results" Retains 100% of its Week-Ago Season Premiere Adult 18-49 Audience, while Growing its Audience with Adults 25-54 and Men 25-54

"ABC News Special: Live To Be 150Can You Do It?" Earns Second to CBS' Special Conclusion of "CSI: Miami" in the 10 O'clock Hour Among Viewers and Key Adults

Tuesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC took second place to Fox on Tuesday among Total Viewers (10.9 million), outdrawing third-place CBS by 6% (10.3 million) and fourth-place NBC by 47% (7.4 million).

"Dancing with the Stars Results" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Catapulting from its lead-in ("Just for Laughs" repeat = 5.6 million and 1.4/4) by 11.3 million viewers and by 179% in Adults 18-49, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars Results" (16.9 million) overcame the "Idol"-fueled season premiere of Fox's "Hell's Kitchen" (12.6 million) to win its time period by 4.4 million viewers. From 9:00-10:00 p.m., ABC's "DWTS Results" also beat the second hour of NBC's 2-hour "Biggest Loser" in Total Viewers (16.9 million vs. 9.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.9/9 vs. 3.7/9). Actor Steve Guttenberg was the third celebrity this season to be eliminated from the competition.

The ABC dance contest qualified as Tuesday's No. 2 TV program for the second week in a row, trailing only "Idol" and outdrawing the No. 3 show of the night, CBS' conclusion of a special 2-part "C.S.I.: Miami," by 2.6 million viewers (14.3 million from 10:00-11:00 p.m.).

"DWTS the Results Show" retained 100% of its week-earlier season premiere Adult 18-49 audience and grew its delivery in Adults 25-54 (5.1/11 vs. 5.0/11) and Men 25-54 (3.1/7 vs. 3.0/7).

"ABC News Special: Live To Be 150Can You Do It?" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

During the 10 o'clock hour, "ABC News Special: Live To Be 150Can You Do It?" took second place to the conclusion of CBS' 2-part special, "C.S.I.: Miami" (Part 1 aired the prior night, on Monday 3/31/08) among Total Viewers (10.2 million), Adults 18-49 (2.5/7) and Adults 25-54 (3.3/8). From Barbara Walters and ABC News, the special reported on the quest to find the elusive answer to living longer and staying younger.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from over 14% at the same point in 2006, up to more than 23% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
