Documentary Beyond the Headlines: Catching the Craigslist Killer Averages 3.7 Million Total Viewers

LOS ANGELES, CA (January 4, 2011) - In its world premiere last night, Lifetime's Original Movie The Craigslist Killer generated strong viewership against high-profile competition, averaging 5.4 million (5,391,000) Total Viewers. The film, starring Jake McDorman, Agnes Bruckner and William Baldwin, secured 2,716,000 Adults 25-54 viewers, making it ad-supported cable's number one movie in the demo in two years, as well as Lifetime's fifth most watched original movie premiere ever. Among Adults 18-34, The Craigslist Killer averaged 1.7 million viewers, making it the network's second most watched Original Movie premiere ever in Adults 18-34. The movie also averaged 2,055,000 Women 18-49 viewers and 1,937,000 Women 25-54 viewers, according to Nielsen Research. Based on the true story of the double life led by Philip Markoff, the handsome Boston University medical student and National Honor Society member accused of killing a New York masseuse he found through classified ads on the popular website, The Craigslist Killer registered a 4.0 Household rating. Compared to Lifetime's 2010 Original Movie average, The Craigslist Killer was up triple digits in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54, Women 18-49, Women 25-54 and Households.

Immediately following the movie, Lifetime aired the hour-long documentary, Beyond the Headlines: Catching the Craigslist Killer, which averaged 3.7 million (3,716,000) Total Viewers and secured 2.0 million (1,982,000) Adults 25-54 viewers; 1,537,000 Women 18-49 viewers; 1,411,000 Women 25-54 viewers and a 2.9 Household rating - all up triple digits versus prior four week average. The documentary included interviews with people who knew Markoff and his victims, as well as investigators and prosecutors who speak on camera about the case for the very first time.

Encore presentations of The Craigslist Killer will air this Saturday, January 8, at 9:00pm (ET/PT) and Sunday, January 9, at 7:00pm and 11:00pm (ET/PT).

The Craigslist Killer follows the dark, mysterious life Markoff (McDorman) carried online while preparing for a promising future as a doctor and a life of happiness with his fiance Megan McAllister (Bruckner). Seemingly destined for greatness as one of Boston University's brightest med students, Markoff could do no wrong in the eyes of Megan, his friends, fellow students and professors. But hidden from those close to him was the violent wrath only he and his victims knew - beginning with his alleged April 14, 2009, first-degree murder of a masseuse who advertised her services on Craigslist. When police discover the brutal killing and a number of other attacks on women were all connected to advertisements placed on Craigslist, their investigation ultimately led them to Markoff. Baldwin portrays the lead detective investigating the case.

The Craigslist Killer was produced by Peace Out Productions and Silverscreen Pictures, Inc. Judith Verno executive produced and Kyle Clark is produced. Stephen T. Kay directed from the script written by Donald Martin and Stephen Tolkin. The movie is based on the book A Date with Death by Michele R. McPhee.

Beyond the Headlines: Catching the Craigslist Killer was produced by CBS EYE Productions. Executive producers include Brett Alexander of CBS EYE Productions and JoAnn Alfano, Gena McCarthy and David Hillman of Lifetime Television. Emily Bernstein is producer.
