ABC's "Nightline" Ranks No. 1 Across All Target Demos, Draws Largest Overall Audience Since Early May and Best Key Adults Numbers Since Early June

"Nightline" Posts Double-Digit Increases From the Prior Week in Total Viewers (+20%), Adults 25-54 (+20%) and Adults 18-49 (+22%)

Season to date, "Nightline" is Drawing its Largest Overall Audience in 8 Years

"Nightline" is No. 1 Season to Date Among Adults 25-54 for the First Time Ever Versus NBC's "The Tonight Show" and CBS' "The Late Show"

For the week of August 22, 2011, ABC's "Nightline" ranked No. 1 for the 2nd consecutive week across all key target demos: Total Viewers (4.398 million), Adults 25-54 (1.698 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.316 million), according to Nielsen Media Research. "Nightline" has taken the top spot in overall viewers and in the key adult news demo for the 4th time in the last 5 weeks.

"Nightline" posted double-digit increases from the prior week in all three demos: Total Viewers (+20%), Adults 25-54 (+20%) and Adults 18-49 (+22%). In addition, the ABC latenight program drew its largest audience in over 3 months, while hitting an 11-week high in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 - best since w/o 5/2/11 and w/o 6/6/11, respectively.

"Nightline" built substantially on the year-ago week across the target demos: Total Viewers (+32%), Adults 25-54 (+19%) and Adults 18-49 (+17%), improving on its overall audience year to year for the last 10 weeks. In fact, "Nightline" increased its Total Viewer count over the year-earlier week in 26 of the last 28 weeks.

On Friday (8/26/11), "Nightline," with reports on the states of emergency in the Eastern United States due to Hurricane Irene, delivered its most-watched telecast (5.196 million) since May and saw its best Adults 25-54 (2.060 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.703 million) performance since June - since 5/24/11 and 6/9/11, respectively.

Season to date, "Nightline" ranks first in late-night among Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. This is the first time ever that "Nightline" has been in first place at this point in the season in Adults 25-54 since at least the 1993-94 season, when "Letterman" began on CBS. In addition, "Nightline" is up by +6% in Total Viewers and by +4% in Adults 25-54 compared to the same point last year, standing as the only program to grow year to year in Adults 25-54 versus "The Tonight Show" and "The Late Show." Season to date, "Nightline" is drawing its largest overall audience in 8 years - since the 2002-03 season.
