ABC Leads Sunday in Adults 18-49 Over CBS with the Tony Awards

ABC led the pack on Sunday night in Adults 18-49, beating NBC by 8%, Fox by 17% and CBS with its 3-hour 2012 Tony Awards telecast by 40%. In fact, the Network finished #1 against its rivals in all 4 hours of the evening.
During the 7 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat America's Funniest Home Videos ranked #1 in Adults 18-49, tying CBS' original 60 Minutes and beating NBC's first-run Dateline by 10%.
Jumping over its lead-in by 36% at 8pm in Adults 18-49, ABC's Secret Millionaire beat out the second hour of NBC's 2-hour Dateline by 7% and the opening hour of CBS' Tony Awards by 25%. The ABC unscripted series gained viewers and young adult audience throughout its broadcast.
· ABC's Secret Millionaire retained 100% of its week-ago season opener with young adults (AD18-34/AD18-49), while growing over its premiere in Women 18-34 (+8%) and Kids 2-11 (+17%).
From 9-11pm, ABC's EM: Weight Loss Edition finished #1 among Adults 18-49, leading the final 2 hours of CBS' Tony Awards by a substantial 67%. EM: Weight Loss also outdelivered its network rivals in the time slot with Adults 25-54 and Women 18-49. From its first hour to its second hour, the ABC unscripted series built by 9% in Total Viewers and by 14% in Adults 18-49.
· ABC's EM: Weight Loss was up from its week-earlier premiere with Total Viewers (+2%), Adults 18-34 (+13%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%), while holding 100% of its Adult 18-49 delivery.

In fact, the Network finished No. 1 against its rivals in all 4 hours of the evening. In addition, ABC ran No. 1 on Sunday with Adults 25-54 and Women 18-49.

During the 7 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat "America's Funniest Home Videos" ranked No. 1 in Adults 18-49 (1.1/4), tying CBS' original "60 Minutes" and beating NBC's first-run "Dateline" by 10% (1.0/4).

"EM: Weight Loss" also outdelivered its network rivals in the time slot with Adults 25-54 and Women 18-49. From its first hour to its second hour, the ABC unscripted series built by 9% in Total Viewers (4.4 million to 4.8 million) and by 14% in Adults 18-49 (1.4/4 to 1.6/4).
· ABC's "EM: Weight Loss" was up from its week-earlier premiere with Total Viewers (+2%), Adults 18-34 (+13%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%), while holding 100% of its Adult 18-49 delivery.
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 44% currently, from 41% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
