UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - September 25, 2012 - NBC has captured the primetime ratings week of September 17-23, led by the #1 show in 18-49 and total viewers, "Sunday Night Football," while Monday and Tuesday editions of "The Voice" and Monday's premiere of "Revolution" delivered the top three non-sports ratings on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in 18-49, and "Go On" was #7 non-sports. According to "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research, NBC finished the week with an average 3.0 rating, 9 share in adults 18-49 and 8.4 million viewers overall.
It's the seventh time in nine weeks that NBC has ranked #1 or tied for #1 among ABC, CBS NBC and Fox in adults 18-49 and the seventh time in nine weeks NBC has led outright among those networks in total viewers.
For the week, NBC was #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox on four of seven nights in 18-49 (Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday) and three of seven in total viewers (Monday, Saturday and Sunday).
NBC Sports' Patriots-Ravens "Sunday Night Football" coverage delivered the #1 primetime rating of the week on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, total viewers and all key adult-male categories, while "The Voice" was #1 in all key adult-female demos.
"Sunday Night Football" has been #1 in 18-49 and total viewers for three of three weeks so far this NFL season and has delivered more than 21 million viewers with each telecast through week three for the first time in its seven seasons on NBC.
For the week, NBC claimed five of the top 10 rankings in adults 18-49 among primetime programs on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox (excluding all football pre- and post-game telecasts). In 18-49, top NBC programs for the week included "Sunday Night Football (#1), Monday and Tuesday editions of "The Voice" (tied for #2), "Revolution" (#4), "Go On" (#8), "The New Normal" (#15), "The Office" (tied for #16), "Notre Dame Football" (#18), "Parenthood" (tied for #21) and "Parks and Recreation" (tied for #24). In total viewers, NBC was led by "Sunday Night Football" (#1), Tuesday and Monday editions of "The Voice" (#2 and #3 respectively), "Revolution" (#6), "Go On" (#12), "Notre Dame Football" (#22) and "The New Normal" (#23)..
Primetime averages for the week of September 17-23 in adults 18-49 were: NBC (3.0/9), CBS (1.9/6), Fox (1.8/5), ABC (1.7/5) and CW (0.3/1). In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: NBC (8.4 million), CBS (7.9 million), Fox (6.0 million), ABC (5.2 million) and CW (0.8 million).
For the completed 2011-12 broadcast year, NBC finished #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adult 18-49 rating and total viewers, running within a tenth of a rating point of first-place Fox in 18-49. NBC is also #2 for the broadcast year in total viewers and adults 18-34 and tied for #2, and within a tenth of a point of #1, in adults 25-54. NBC is the only network among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox that's up versus one year ago in total viewers and viewers 18-49, 18-34 and 25-54. Averages for the completed broadcast year are: Fox (2.7/8), NBC (2.6/8), CBS (2.4/7), ABC (2.1/6) and CW (0.6/2). In overall total viewers, the broadcast-year averages are: CBS (9.8 million), NBC (8.1 million), Fox (7.5 million), ABC (7.3 million) and CW (1.4 million).
NBC highlights for the week of September 17-23
* On Monday, "The Voice" jumped week to week by 12 percent in 18-49 and 11 percent in total viewers to top the prior week's season premiere and last May's season finale and score the hit series' top results since March 12. "The Voice" was the #1 show of the night on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in 18-49 and total viewers.
* Also on Monday, the premiere of "Revolution" captured the highest 18-49 rating for a debuting drama on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox in three years and NBC's highest in five years. "Revolution" outscored every telecast of every 10 p.m. ET drama on ABC, CBS or NBC since January 2010.
* NBC was #1 Monday among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in all key ratings categories.
* On Tuesday, "The Voice" dominated the night, delivering week-to-week gains of 18 percent in 18-49 rating and 2.2 million persons in total viewers, to claim NBC's highest 18-49 rating in the time period, excluding sports, in nearly seven years (since November 29, 2005)..

* Sunday's Patriots-Ravens "Sunday Night Football" scored the second-best 18-49 and total-viewer results for an NFL week-three primetime game since 1997, leading NBC to a nightlong win among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in all key categories (including a tie among women 25-54).

On Monday, Sept. 17 from 8-10 p.m. ET, "The Voice" (4.7 rating, 12 share in adults 18-49, 13.6 million viewers overall) grew 12 percent week to week in 18-49 rating (with a 4.7 vs. a 4.2) and was up 11 percent or 1.3 million persons in total viewers (13.6 million vs. 12.2 million). "The Voice" delivered the #1 results of the night on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in 18-49 and total viewers, winning the time period head to head versus Fox's season premiere of "Bones" and series premiere of "The Mob Doctor" by a margin of 147 percent in 18-49 rating (4.7 vs. 1.9) and 107 percent or 7.0 million persons in total viewers (13.569 million vs. 6.547 million). "The Voice" scored its highest 18-49 rating on any night of the week since Monday, March 12 (5.2), topping last week's season premiere (4.2) and last May's season finale (4.4). In total viewers, this was also the top "Voice" result on any night of the week since March 12 (14.515 million). The September 17 edition of "The Voice" delivered growth throughout its time period, generating this track in 18-49 rating: 4.2, 4.7, 4.8, 5.1, for a gain of 0.9 of a rating point or 21 percent from the show's first half-hour to its fourth. In total viewers, the increase is 14 percent or nearly 1.8 million persons (14.2 million vs. 12.5 million). "The Voice" was up 57 percent versus NBC's 18-49 average in the time period last season (4.7 vs. 3.0) and up 56 percent in total viewers (13.6 million vs. 8.7 million). Versus its averages for the show's final four Monday telecasts last spring, "The Voice" was up 27 percent in 18-49 (4.7 vs. 3.7) and 34 percent in total viewers (13.6 vs. 10.1 million).
Monday at 10 p.m. ET, the premiere of "Revolution" (4.1/11 in adults 18-49, 11.7 million viewers overall) ranked as the top premiering drama on any network in three years in 18-49 (since ABC's "V" on October 3, 2009, 5.2) and it was NBC's top premiering drama in five years (since "Bionic Woman," Sept. 26, 2007, 5.7). "Revolution" topped the 18-49 rating of every telecast of every regular 10 p.m. drama on ABC, CBS and NBC last season - in fact, the last regularly scheduled 10 p.m. drama on any net to do higher was "Private Practice" (4.2) on Jan. 14, 2010. "Revolution" led the hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in every key category, and topped the combined ABC-CBS rating by all key measures. "Revolution" was up 156 percent versus NBC's average in the time period last season in 18-49 rating (4.1 vs. 1.6, L+SD non-sports) and up 128 percent in total viewers (11.7 million vs. 5.1 million).

On Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 8-9 p.m. ET, "The Voice" (4.7/14 in 18-49, 13.6 million viewers overall) led the night, growing versus the prior Tuesday by 18 percent in 18-49 rating (4.7 vs. 4.0) and 19 percent or 2.2 million persons in total viewers (13.6 million vs. 11.4 million). The September 18 "Voice" was up 34 percent versus last season's second Tuesday telecast (with a 4.7 rating vs. a 3.5 for a Results Show from 9-10 p.m. on April 10) and up 51 percent in total viewers (13.597 million vs. 8.999 million), while out-rating every Tuesday telecast from last season, including the May 8 season finale (4.4). These are the top Tuesday results for "The Voice" in 18-49 and total viewers since May 31, 2011 (4.9/13 in 18-49, 14.4 million viewers overall). The 4.7 in 18-49 is NBC's best non-sports rating in the time period in nearly seven years (since November 29, 2005, 5.9, "Biggest Loser 2" finale). "The Voice" was up 135 percent versus NBC's average in the time period last season in 18-49 rating (4.7 vs. 2.0) and up 122 percent in total viewers (13.597 million vs. 6.116 million). "The Voice" was the #1 telecast of the night in 18-49, total viewers and other key categories, winning its the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in every key measure. From its first half-hour to its second, "The Voice" grew by 1.0 of a point or 24 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 5.2 from a 4.2) and by 19 percent or more than 2.3 million person in total viewers (14.8 million vs. 12.4 million).
Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET, "Go On" (3.4/9 in 18-49, 9.3 million in total viewers) retained 100 percent of the prior week's 18-49 rating for the show's time-period premiere and retained 95 percent in total viewers (9.3 vs. 9.7 million). That makes "Go On" the first debuting comedy on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox to match its week-one 18-49 rating during week two in two years (since Fox's "Raising Hope" earned 3.1 ratings with its first two telecasts on September 21-28, 2010). This week's "Go On" won the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in all key categories. "Go On" was up 42 percent versus NBC's average in the time period last season in 18-49 rating (3.4 vs. 2.4) and up 36 percent in total viewers (9.3 vs. 6.8 million).
Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. ET, "The New Normal" (2.2/6 in 18-49, 6.1 million in total viewers) retained 88 percent of the prior week's 18-49 rating for the series' regular-slot debut (2.5) and retained 87 percent in total viewers (6.079 million vs. 6.962 million). This week's "New Normal" topped the ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox slot competition in adults 18-49 and other key demographics.
Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET, "Parenthood" (1.8/5 in 18-49, 5.0 million in total viewers) retained 95 percent of the prior week's 18-49 rating for the show's season premiere and retained 91 percent in total viewers (5.0 million vs. 5.5 million). "Parenthood" was up 6 percent in 18-49 versus its last four telecasts of last season (1.8 vs. 1.7) and up 4 percent in total viewers (5.0 million vs. 4.8 million). "Parenthood" was #1 in the hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in 18-49 and other key demographics.
NBC led the night in 18-49, ranking #1 in adults 18-49 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox during six of Tuesday night's six half-hours.
On Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 8-9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "The Voice" averaged a 1.7/6 in 18-49 and 5.5 million viewers overall. The "Voice" rebroadcast improved on NBC's average in the time period last season by 13 percent in 18-49 rating (with a 1.7 vs. a 1.5, L+SD non-sports) and was up 24 percent in total viewers (5.5 million vs. 4.5 million). From its first half-hour to its second, the "Voice" encore grew by 19 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.9 from a 1.6).
Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, an encore "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1.2/3 in adults 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall) matched the show's summer high in 18-49 rating and captured "SVU's" second biggest overall audience of the summer. The "SVU" rebroadcast topped NBC's time-period average last season in 18-49 rating by 20 percent (with a 1.2 vs. a 1.0).
Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of Monday's "Revolution" premiere (1.2/4 in adults 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall) generated solid additional sampling after Monday's first-run telecast earned the best 18-49 rating for a drama premiere on ABC, CBS or NBC in three years. The "Revolution" encore retained 100 percent of its 18-49 lead-in from a "Law & Order: SVU" rebroadcast. The "Revolution" encore is #2 in the hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in every key ratings category ahead of ABC's "Revenge" encore.
On Thursday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. ET, "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday" (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall) improved on NBC's time-period averages from last season by 14 percent in 18-49 rating (1.6 vs. 1.4, L+SD non-sports) and 49 percent in total viewers (5.1 million vs. 3.4 million). In total viewers, "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday" topped all of NBC's results in the time slot last season. In the time period, "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday" tied for #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-34 and was #2 outright among those networks in women 18-34.
Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET, the second season debut of "Up All Night" averaged a 1.3/4 in 18-49 and 3.1 million viewers overall. In adults 18-34, "Up All Night" retained 92 percent of its lead-in from the "SNL" special (with a 1.1 rating vs. a 1.2), and in women 18-34, the retention was 100 percent (1.5 vs. 1.5). Keep in mind that last season "Up All Night" added an average 51 percent to these next-day "live plus same day" ratings when Nielsen reported "live plus seven day" results, the biggest percentage increase for any comedy on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox.
Thursday from 9-9:31 p.m. ET, the ninth season premiere of "The Office" (2.1/6 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall) finished within 9 percent of its season-finale rating on May 10 in 18-49 rating (with a 2.1 rating vs. a 2.3) and in total viewers, "The Office" finished within 7 percent (4.3 million vs. 4.6 million). This week's "Office" built on its lead-in by 62 percent in 18-49 rating and 38 percent in total viewers. In the time period, "The Office" ranked #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49 and 18-34 and #1 in men 18-34. Keep in mind that last season "The Office" added an average 50 percent to these next-day "live plus same day" ratings when Nielsen reported "live plus seven day" results.
Thursday at 9:31 ET, the fifth season debut of "Parks and Recreation" (1.7/5 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall) matched its May 10 season finale in 18-49 rating (1.7 each) and was up 2 percent in total viewers (3.496 million vs. 3.417 million). "Parks" matched its highest 18-49 rating since March 8 (while it was still airing in the 8:30 half-hour) and delivered its biggest overall audience since that same date. In the time slot, "Parks" tied for #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, was #2 outright in adults and women 18-34 and was #1 among those networks in men 18-34. "Parks and Recreation" retained 81 percent of its 18-49 lead-in from "The Office," up from its 77 percent average in this time period last season.
Thursday at 10 p.m. ET, "Rock Center with Brian Williams" (1.1/3 in1 8-49, 4.1 million viewers overall) finished #2 in the hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in adult 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers and ranked #1 among those networks in adults 18-34. "Rock Center" matched NBC's 18-49 average in the slot last season (1.1 rating, L+SD non-sports) and was up 12 percent in total viewers (4.087 million vs. 3;.665 million).
On Friday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. ET, "The 2012 ALMA Awards" averaged a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 2.4 million viewers overall. At 9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Grimm" delivered a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 2.1 million viewers overall. And at 10 p.m. ET, "Dateline NBC" averaged a 1.0/3 in 18-49 and 4.3 million viewers overall. "Dateline NBC" reported its top Friday 18-49 and total-viewer results since August 17.
On Saturday, Sept. 22, NBC Sports' coverage of Michigan-Notre Dame college football won the night among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, total viewers and all other key categories (including a tie among women 25-54). In 18-49, it was NBC's top-rated non-Olympic Saturday since the night of a Lions-Saints NFL Playoff game January 7. The Michigan-Notre Dame telecast averaged a 2.0/7 in adults 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall and a 4.0/7 household rating/share for its full duration from 7:30-11 p.m. ET, to top last year's two primetime Notre Dame telecasts on NBC in all three categories.
On Sunday, Sept. 23, the "NBC Sunday Night Football" telecast of the New England Patriots at the Baltimore Ravens propelled NBC to a decisive Sunday win by all key measures (including a tied among women 25-54). For its full duration, the Patriots-Ravens game averaged an 8.7/23 in adults 18-49, 21.3 million viewers overall and a 12.9/21 household rating/share from 8:31-11:58 p.m. ET. The Patriots-Ravens telecast generated the best 18-49 and total-viewer results for a week-three edition of "Sunday Night Football" in four years (since Cowboys-Packers in 2008) and the second-best 18-49 and total-viewer results for an NFL week-three primetime game since 1997. The viewership and 18-49 rating for Sunday's game was up 5 and 4 percent, respectively, from last year's week-three contest, (Steelers-Colts, 8.3 in 18-49, 20.4 million viewers overall).
For the night (from 7:30-11 p.m. ET), NBC averaged a 7.2/19 in 18-49 and 17.5 million viewers overall, to win the night in total viewers by 36 percent or 4.6 million persons over the second-place network (17.5 million vs. 12.9 million for CBS, which was boosted by a lengthy NFL overrun). In adults 18-49, NBC's margin of victory over the No. 2 network was 95 percent (7.2 vs. 3.7 for CBS).
Also on Sunday, "Football Night in America 2" from 7:30-7:56 p.m. ET averaged a 1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall and a 2.2/4 household rating/share. "Football Night in America 3" from 7:56-8:20 p.m. delivered a 3.7/10 in 18-49, 8.7 million viewers overall and a 5.2/8 in households. From 8:20-8:31 p.m., "NBC Sunday Night Football Pre Kickoff" averaged a 6.2/17 in 18-49, 14.7 million viewers overall and an 8.6/14 in households. Note: "Football Night in America" from 7-7:30 p.m. ET was sustaining and is excluded from nightly and weekly primetime averages.
