NBA TV Registers Record Growth in 2012
Network Delivers Most-Viewed Telecast Ever & Four of Top Five Telecasts of All Time
NBA TV's Primetime Viewership Up 55 Percent vs. 2011
NBA TV, with its 96-game regular season schedule, popular NBA Fan Night presented by Sprint franchise and original programming such as The Dream Team presented by Right Guard documentary, critically-acclaimed Open Court and The Association series, delivered a record-setting year in 2012. The network recorded its most-viewed telecast ever with an average of 868,000 total viewers tuning in for the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers on the opening night of the 2012-13 NBA regular season (Wednesday, Oct. 31). The telecast surpassed NBA TV's previous record set earlier this year when an average of 847,000 total viewers watched the premiere of The Dream Team on June 13, 2012.
Overall, NBA TV aired four of its top five most-viewed telecasts of all time in 2012:
· L.A. Lakers at Trail Blazers (Oct. 31, 2012) - 868,000 total viewers
· The Dream Team documentary, (June 13, 2012) - 847,000 total viewers
· NBA Playoffs: Memphis Grizzlies at San Antonio Spurs (April 27, 2011) - 835,000 total viewers
· Boston Celtics at Atlanta Hawks (May 1, 2012) - 796,000 total viewers
· Lakers at Clippers (Jan. 14, 2012) - 756,000 total viewers
NBA TV recorded its most-viewed regular season ever in 2011-12 with an average of 335,000 total viewers for 96 game telecasts, an increase of 32 percent over the previous season. NBA TV, with the youngest media age (35.4) of any sports network, also posted double-digit increases across all key demos including a 43 percent increase among Adults 18-34 and a 39 percent improvement among Men 18-34. Based on the calendar year to date, NBA TV's primetime viewership is up 55 percent compared to the same period in 2011.
NBA TV's commitment to original programming delivered strong returns in 2012. In addition to The Dream Team documentary, the network's most-viewed original programming to date, NBA TV's critically-acclaimed Open Court has averaged 139,000 total viewers through five telecasts this season, up 74 percent compared to last year. Additionally, through five episodes of The Association featuring the Brooklyn Nets, the series is up 53 percent among total viewers compared with last year's episodes.
The network's NBA Fan Night presented by Sprint - in which fans vote for the game they most want to watch each week - continues to generate audience growth as well. Through five telecasts this season, NBA Fan Night games are averaging 482,000 total viewers, an increase of six percent compared to the network's record-setting NBA Fan Night viewership for 22 telecasts last year.
NBA TV's successes continue to attract a wide variety of brands, with over 30 new advertisers during the 2011-12 season, and more than 10 new advertisers for the current season. NBA TV is currently available in 60.7 million households.
