Live + 7 Day Ratings: ABC's "Modern Family" Emerges as Wednesday's #1 Show Over FOX's "Idol" in Adults 18-49 for Its 3rd Straight Original

Based on Live + 7 Day ratings for the week, ABC's Modern Family emerged as Wednesday's #1 TV show for its 3rd original telecast in a row among Adults 18-49 (6.1 rating), leading Fox's American Idol-Weds by 13% (5.4). Initially in the Live + Same Day statistics, Idol held a 13% advantage over Modern Family among young adults and ranked as Wednesday's top-rated show. Modern Family also increased its lead over Idol-Thurs to 27% (4.8) with Adults 18-49 in the Live + 7 Day numbers (from 3% in the L+SD ratings originally).
Based on Nielsen's TV playback data for the week, ABC's Modern Family registered as the biggest gainer via time-shifted viewing in Adults 18-49 for the 14th time in its 14 weeks of original telecasts, picking up an additional +2.3 rating points over its originally reported Live + Same Day number. The ABC sitcom also qualified as the week's biggest overall gainer, adding on +4.54 million viewers to its L+SD tally. Based on TV playback data for the 2012-13 season, ABC's Modern Family is the season's biggest gainer via time-shifted viewing in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, adding on +4.57 million viewers and +2.3 rating points.
Adding on +1.7 rating points to its L+SD number, ABC's Grey's Anatomy was the week's biggest broadcast drama gainer with Adults 18-49 (tied with Fox's The Following), moving ahead of CBS' Person of Interest to rank as TV's #1 broadcast drama in the young adult demo (4.5 vs. 4.0). In the originally reported Live Same Day ratings, the CBS drama led Grey's by a margin of 2-tenths of a rating point. Grey's Anatomy is the season's #1 broadcast drama in Adults 18-49 (4.9 - tied with NBC's Revolution), while picking up +1.7 rating points on average this season.
· ABC had 7 telecasts add on at least 2.5 million viewers over their originally reported L+SD numbers: Modern Family (+4.54 million), Grey's Anatomy (+3.75 million), Castle (+3.74 million), Scandal (+2.87 million), Nashville (+2.76 million), Once Upon a Time (+2.54 million) and Revenge (+2.49 million).
· Among Adults 18-49, 7 of ABC's series registered substantial ratings increases of at least a full rating point (the most for any network): Modern Family (+2.3 rating points), Grey's Anatomy (+1.7 rating points), Nashville (+1.2 rating points), Once Upon a Time (+1.1 rating points), Scandal (+1.1 rating points), Castle (+1.0 rating points) and Revenge (+1.0 rating points).
