ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Hits a 7-Week High in Adults 18-49

Some early points on Jimmy Kimmel Live's numbers, ahead of the regular press release:

During the week of April 1, 2013, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live was up week to week by 6% in Adults 18-49, scoring a 7-week high in the key young adult demo - since the week of 2/11/13. JKL also grew over its performance on the same week last year by 37% among Adults 18-49, growing year over year in each of the 13 weeks since its move to 11:35pm.

· ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live finished as the week's #1 broadcast talk show in late-night in Adults 18-34, holding double-digit advantages over both NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (+10%) and CBS' The Late Show with David Letterman (+27%). In fact, the ABC late-night program has now outdelivered CBS' The Late Show in Adults 18-34 in 12 of the 13 weeks since the two shows began airing head-to-head at 11:35pm.

· JKL stood as the #2 talk show overall in late-night for the week in Adults 18-49, pacing within just 100k young adult viewers from NBC's The Tonight Show, which was in originals on all 5 days of the week (versus 4 originals and 1 repeat telecast for JKL), and beating CBS' The Late Show by 11%.

With its new lineup of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" at 11:35 p.m. and "Nightline" at 12:35 a.m. during the week of April 1, 2013, ABC delivered its best performance in late-night in 2-1/2 months in Adults 18-49 (since the week of 1/21/13), growing week to week by 6% (796,000 vs. 750,000). ABC's new late-night lineup was also up over the Net's performance on the year-ago week among young adults (+2% - 778,000 on w/o 4/2/12).

· Taking the top spot in 11 of 13 weeks with its new lineup, ABC stood as the No. 1 network in late-night once again in Adults 18-49 (796,000), beating CBS by 25% (639,000) and NBC by 8% (740,000).

"Jimmy Kimmel Live" (M-F 11:35 p.m.)

During the week of April 1, 2013, ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" was up week to week by 6% in Adults 18-49 (922,000 vs. 871,000), scoring a 7-week high in the key young adult demo - since w/o 2/11/13. "JKL" also grew over its performance on the same week last year by 37% with Adults 18-49 (671,000 on w/o 4/2/12), growing year over year in each of the 13 weeks since its move to 11:35 p.m.

· "JKL" stood as the No. 2 talk show overall in late-night for the week in Adults 18-49 (922,000), pacing within just 100,000 young adult viewers from NBC's "The Tonight Show" (1.021 million), which was in originals on all 5 days of the week (versus 4 originals and 1 repeat telecast for "JKL"), and beating CBS' "The Late Show" by 11% (831,000).

On average through its first 13 weeks at 11:35 p.m., ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" stands just 86,000 Adult 18-49 viewers from NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (931,000 vs. 1.017 million). In fact, "JKL" has virtually eliminated its entire young adult gap with "Leno" since the move to 11:35 p.m. (-81% - 86,000 vs. 449,000), as more than 400,000 Adult 18-49 viewers stood between the two late-night programs during the same 13 weeks last year.

"JKL" outdelivers CBS' "The Late Show with David Letterman" by 61,000 Adult 18-49 viewers head to head at 11:35 p.m. (+7% - 931,000 vs. 870,000).

Among Adults 18-34, ABC's "JKL" (331,000) beats NBC's "The Tonight Show" by 4% (319,000) and CBS' "The Late Show" by 19% (277,000).

Thirteen weeks into its new 11:35 p.m. time slot, ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" is up over its performance through this point last year by 41% in Adults 18-49 (931,000 vs. 658,000) and by 46% in Adults 18-34 (331,000 vs. 227,000), standing as the only late-night broadcast talk show to improve year over year in both Nielsen measures.

"JKL" is improving the hour for ABC over the comparable 13 weeks in 2012 by 6% in Adults 18-49 (931,000 vs. 877,000) and by 19% in Adults 18-34 (331,000 vs. 279,000).

"Nightline" (M-F 12:35 a.m.)

For the week of April 1, 2013, ABC News' "Nightline" averaged 1.459 million Total Viewers, 679,000 Adults 25-54 and 522,000 Adults 18-49, according to Nielsen Media Research. For the 3rd straight week, "Nightline" improved week to week (666,000 and 483,000, respectively, on w/o 3/25/13) in Adults 25-54 (+2%) and Adults 18-49 (+8%), posting its best performance in the key adult demos in 5 weeks - since w/o 2/25/13.

"Nightline" beat CBS' "The Late Late Show" by +129,000 Total Viewers, +68,000 Adults 25-54 and +75,000 Adults 18-49.

On average in its new time period, "Nightline" has improved ABC's performance compared to the same weeks last year in Total Viewers (+9%). In addition, "Nightline" leads CBS' "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" by +97,000 Total Viewers and by +24,000 Adults 25-54.
