With the "Dancing" Final Four performance show and a special preview of "Motive" (prior to its debut this Thursday at 9:00 p.m.), ABC was Monday's most-watched television network for the 5th consecutive week (topping all 4 Mondays of the May Sweep), outdrawing runner-up NBC by 3.1 million viewers (12.1 million vs. 9.0 million). "DWTS" was Monday's most-watched TV show on each of its final 4 telecasts this season and finished as last night's No. 2 series in Adults 18-49. The Net took second in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6), finishing 11% ahead of CBS (1.9/5) with season finales of "Rules of Engagement" and "Hawaii Five-0."
"Dancing with the Stars" (8:00-10:00 p.m.)
Jumping week to week in viewers (+11%) and young adults (+25%) to its 2nd-strongest numbers this season (best since season premiere 9 weeks ago on 3/18/13), ABC's Monday finale of "Dancing with the Stars" widened its lead over NBC's "The Voice" to another season-best 4.1 million viewers (14.7 million vs. 10.6 million) and once again narrowed the gap in Adults 18-49. While the ABC unscripted series grew its numbers (2.5/7 vs. 2.0/6), the NBC show continued its decline (3.4/10 vs. 3.8/11).
"Motive" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
Earning strong sampling ahead of its Thursday premiere, ABC's special preview of "Motive" drew an average of 6.8 million viewers, topping NBC's "Revolution" (5.8 million) by 1.0 million viewers and taking second to CBS' season closer of "Hawaii Five-0."
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 48% currently, from 44% at the same point in 2012. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
