Disney Channel Owns Cable TV's Top 2 Telecasts Year to Date Across Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14

The premiere of Disney Channel's "Teen Beach Movie" on Friday, July 19 (8:00 p.m.) created the perfect ratings wave, amassing 8.4 million Total Viewers, ranking as Friday's #1 TV telecast and the #1 TV movie of 2013 to date. A family viewing event, the movie also attracted a solid adult audience, delivering nearly 1.6 million/1.5 rating in Adults 18-49, standing as the #1 telecast in the time period across broadcast and cable networks. The song, sand and surf fest, set inside a retro beach party movie, is part of the Disney Channel Original Movie franchise.

The five day preview on the authenticated WATCH Disney Channel service resulted in over 550,000 views, driving the year-old service to its most watched week yet. The WATCH Disney service is currently available to customers of a variety of Multichannel Video Program Distributors (MVPDs), including Comcast, Cablevision, Cox Communications, Charter Communications, Midcontinent Communications, AT&T U-verse and Verizon FiOS.

Among major youth demos, "Teen Beach Movie" handily became the #1 cable TV telecast of the year across Kids 2-11 (4.6 million/11.6 rating), Kids 6-11 (3.9 million/16.5 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (3.4 million/14.3 rating) and #1 scripted TV telecast overall, behind only "Super Bowl XLVII."

"Teen Beach Movie" is Disney Channel's #1 original movie premiere in over four years in Total Viewers and in nearly six years in Kids 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14. It now stands as the network's #3 original movie ever in Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11, behind only "High School Musical 2" and "Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie," and its #5 original movie of all time in Total Viewers. Disney Channel Original Movies account for the #1 TV movie telecast among Tweens for 11 consecutive years (2002-12).

"Teen Beach Movie" built each half-hour, peaking with 9.0 million Total Viewers and 4.9 million Kids 2-11.

The movie led into the strong preview of the sitcom "Liv & Maddie" (9:45 p.m.), which delivered 5.8 million Total Viewers, 3.2 million Kids 2-11, 2.7 million Kids 6-11 and 2.4 million Tweens, becoming the network's #2 series debut ever in Kids 6-11 and most-watched in Total Viewers in two and a half years - since 11/7/10 ("Shake It Up"). Its regular timeslot premiere is Sunday, September 15 (8:00 p.m.).

The "Teen Beach Movie" soundtrack is currently the #1 soundtrack across the U.S., and #4 on iTunes.

The movie stars Ross Lynch (Disney Channel's "Austin & Ally") as Brady, Maia Mitchell (ABC Family's "The Fosters") as McKenzie, Grace Phipps (ABC Family's "The Nine Lives of Chloe King") as Lela, Garrett Clayton as Tanner, John DeLuca as Butchy, Chrissie Fit (ABC's "General Hospital") as Cheechee, Jordan Fisher as Seacat, Mollee Gray (Disney Channel's "High School Musical") as Giggles, Kent Boyd as Rascal, William T. Loftis as Lugnut, Jessica Lee Keller as Struts, Kevin Chamberlin (Disney Channel's "Jessie") as Dr. Fusion and Steve Valentine (Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie") as Les Camembert. Suzanne Cryer is Aunt Antoinette and Barry Bostwick makes a special appearance as Big Poppa.

Directed by Jeffrey Hornaday (Disney Channel's "Geek Charming," choreographer of the films "A Chorus Line," "Flashdance") and choreographed by Hornaday and Christopher Scott ("Lemonade Mouth," "Step Up 4"), the movie's hair and make-up is by Loida Jeannot and Dominique Borrell, respectively and its wardrobe was designed by Ruth Carter ("Amistad," "Malcolm X"). The score is by David Lawrence ("High School Musical"). The production design is by Mark Hofeling ("High School Musical").

The story is by Vince Marcello (director, featurette version of the off-Broadway musical "Zombie Prom," and "An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars") & Mark Landry and the teleplay is by Marcello, Landry and Robert Horn (writer of "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure," writer of Broadway's "13" and writer/producer of "Designing Women"). David Buelow ("Bring It On: Fight to the Finish") is the executive producer and Robert F. Phillips ("Teen Spirit," "Valkyrie") is the producer. "Teen Beach Movie" is a production of Rainforest Productions, LLC.
