The opening week of 2013 Major League Baseball Postseason on TBS helped drive the network to the top of the charts last week as basic cable's #1 network in primetime delivery of total viewers and adults 18-49.
Three MLB Postseason telecasts ranked among basic cable's Top 10 programs for the week: Wednesday's game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Indians (4.7 million viewers), Tuesday's contest between the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates (4.6 million viewers) and Friday's match-up between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves (4.1 million viewers). In addition, Wednesday's Tampa Bay/Cleveland game was a Top 10 performer for the week with adults 18-49 (1.8 million).
Cartoon Network
Cartoon Network ranked as television's #1 network among boys 6-11 and boys 9-14 in Early Prime on Monday Night (7-9 p.m.). A new episode of Adventure Time (7 p.m.) scored as the #1 telecast of the day among boys 6-11 and boys 9-14, and #1 in its time period among kids 9-14 and boys 2-11, earning ratings/delivery increases vs. last year's time period among boys 2-11 and boys 6-11. New episodes of Regular Show (7:30 p.m.) and Uncle Grandpa (8 p.m.) also ranked #1 in their respective time periods among all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14.
Cartoon Network also earned television's #1 destination for boys 6-11 and boys 9-14 in Early Prime on Tuesday Night (7-9 p.m.), with increases vs. last year among kids 6-11 (2%), boys 2-11 (2%), kids 9-14 (4%) and boys 9-14 (14%). The new episode premiere of Total Drama All-Stars (7 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among kids 9-14, boys 6-11 and boys 9-14, while improving year-over-year delivery among kids 6-11 (6%), kids 9-14 (23%), all targeted boys (up to 46%). The Amazing World of Gumball (7:30 p.m.) charted as the #1 telecast of the day among boys 9-14 and won its timeslot among boys 2-11 & 6-11. The new episode also increased delivery among kids 9-14 (8%) and boys 9-14 (25%) vs. the same time period in 2012.
Additionally, Cartoon Network scored as the #1 television network for boys 6-11 & 9-14 in Early Prime on Wednesday Night (7-9 p.m.). Original series Teen Titans Go! (7:30 p.m.) ranked #1 for the day among boys 6-11 & 9-14, and #1 in its timeslot among all targeted boys. Johnny Test (7 p.m.) won its timeslot among boys 6-11 & 9-14, and Annoying Orange (8 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14.
Finally, Cartoon Network was the #1 television destination among boys 6-11 in Early Prime on Thursday Night (7-9 p.m.). A new episode of Dragons: Defenders of Berk (7:30 p.m.) ranked #1 in its timeslot among boys 6-11/9-14.
Adult Swim
Continuing its ongoing streak among young adults, Adult Swim's Total Day Delivery average ranked #1 this week among all basic cable networks for adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-24 & 18-34. Compared to the same week in 2012, Total Day delivery grew among adults 18-24 by 13%, adults 18-34 by 19%, adults 18-49 by 18%, men 18-24 by 6%, men 18-34 by 9% and men 18-49 by 10%.
Compared to the same week in 2012, Adult Swim's average Primetime delivery among young adults increased across the board - adults 18-24 grew by 20%, adults 18-34 by 17% (ranking #3 among all basic cable networks), adults 18-49 by 17%, men 18-24 by 10%, men 18-34 by 9% and men 18-49 by 9%.
The season premiere of Adult Swim's original series The Eric Andre Show (Thursday, 12:30 a.m.) scored powerful double-digit delivery gains across all targeted adults and men demos vs. the same time period last year - adults 18-24 grew by 35%, adults 18-34 by 55%, adults 18-49 by 37%, men 18-24 by 11%, men 18-34 by 11% and men 18-49 by 21%. Similarly, the premiere of Hot Package (Thursday, 12:45 a.m.) also increased young adults deliveries across young adults, but by even stronger gains - adults 18-24 delivery improved by 25%, adults 18-34 by 60% and adults 18-49 by 43%.
All additional Adult Swim Thursday night original programming - Childrens Hospital (12 a.m.) and NTSF:SD:SUV:: (12:15 a.m.) - out-performed last year's time period performance among adults 18-24, 18-34 and 18-49, between 15% and 36%.
Adults Swim's Sunday night line-up of original programming - China, IL (11:30 p.m.), Aqua TV Show Show (12 a.m.) and Squidbillies (12:15 a.m.) - increased delivery among all targeted young adult and male demos, ranging between 10% and 71%.
Adult Swim programming accounted for 27 of the top 50 telecasts on basic cable for the week among adults 18-34, and 23 of the top 50 with men 18-34, both more than any other network.
TNT
TNT's real-life investigative series Cold Justice has scored more than 1.7 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery for last Tuesday's episode (+14 % vs. the prior week). The show has also scored 674,000 adults 25-54 (+43% vs. the prior week). Meanwhile, the Sept. 17 episode of Cold Justice chalked up a final tally of 2.5 million viewers in Live + 7, with 889,000 adults 25-54.
truTV
truTV's hit series Lizard Lick Towing (Monday at 9 p.m.) scored growth across the board last week. The show averaged 1.5 million viewers (+20% vs. the prior week), with 722,000 adults 18-49 (+4%) and 392,000 men 18-49 (+12%). The show ranked as one of basic cable's Top 5 programs in its timeslot with adults 18-49 and key male demos, leading truTV to a Top 10 finish for the night with adults 18-49 and men 18-49. Lizard Lick Towing yielded a median age of only 42, four years younger than the same time last year.
It was yet another week of growth for truTV.com, as truTV's online destination drew 1.5 million visits, a +35% increase over the same week last year. In addition, the site delivered 9.7 million page views (+41% vs. same week last year), with 1.3 million daily unique visitors (+25%). All three measurements were up over the prior week, as well, with visits increasing by +11%, page views by +24% and daily unique visitors by +8%.
