DIY NETWORK'S "VANILLA ICE GOES AMISH" PREMIERES WITH BLOCKBUSTER PERFORMANCE
New York [For Immediate Release - October 16, 2013] The premiere of DIY Network's buzz-generating series Vanilla Ice Goes Amish on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10 p.m. ET/PT ranked as a top 10 program for M25-54 in its timeslot in all of cable. The premiere attracted 534,000 total viewers, helping the time period's P25-54 rating grow 163% over year-ago levels and 282% over the prior 13 weeks. All seven telecasts of the premiere attracted a total of 1.6 million viewers. The series, featuring pop icon and knock-out home renovator Vanilla Ice, airs on DIY Network on Saturdays at 10 p.m. through November 9.
"This is exactly the kind of ratings momentum that we expected when we first conceptualized Vanilla Ice Goes Amish," said Steven Lerner, senior vice president, programming and production, HGTV and DIY Network. "This is a classic 'fish out of water' programming strategy that works well simply because we had a compelling personality like Vanilla Ice who we knew would be respectful of the Amish community and would encourage them to openly share their world-class expertise and craftsmanship."
In Vanilla Ice Goes Amish, Vanilla Ice and an Amish team tackle construction projects ranging from a kitchen reconstruction to an old-school barn-raising. Vanilla Ice put away his smartphone and home improvement gadgets, and instead immersed himself in traditional Amish family life -- bonding with people who taught him the traditions, practices and trades that have made the Amish one of the most mysterious and misunderstood groups in the world. Vanilla Ice Goes Amish is produced by Juma Entertainment.
