ABC's Tuesday Comedies Grow and Improve their Slots Year to Year
ABC Tuesday Prime (8-11pm - 4.6 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49): ABC beat Fox's Tuesday comedy lineup (3.1 million and 1.4/4) by 1.5 million viewers and by 7% in Adults 18-49.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (8-9pm - 6.6 million and 2.2/6 in AD18-49): ABC's Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ranked a solid second in its hour among in Adults 18-49 to CBS' top-rated NCIS, leading NBC's Biggest Loser by 16% (1.9/5) and Fox's comedies by 69% (Dads/Brooklyn 9-9 = 1.3/4). S.H.I.E.L.D. ranked #1 in the hour with Men 18-34 and Teens 12-17.
· On average, the new drama is more than doubling the Net's year-ago delivery with Adults 18-49 (+105%), ranking as its highest-rated series in the time slot since 2009.
The Goldbergs (9-9:30pm - 5.2 million and 1.7/5 in AD18-49):
With improved lead-in retention at 9pm, The Goldbergs topped Fox's New Girl (3.3 million) in the half-hour by 1.9 million viewers and tied the veteran comedy in Adults 18-49 to rank as Tuesday's most-watched comedy for the 8th week running. The Goldbergs was up week to week in viewers (+6%) and young adults (+13%), matching a 5-week high in Adults 18-49.
· Continuing to improve its time slot for ABC, The Goldbergs was up 18% in Total Viewers and 31% over Happy Endings on the year-ago night (4.4 million and 1.3/4 on 11/13/12).
Trophy Wife (9:30-10pm - 3.8 million and 1.2/3 in AD18-49):
In the 9:30pm half-hour, ABC's Trophy Wife outdrew Fox's The Mindy Project (2.6 million) by 1.2 million viewers. Trophy Wife was up week to week in Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 18-49 (+9%).
· Like its lead-in, Trophy Wife boosted its half-hour by 23% in Total Viewers and by 9% in Adults 18-49 over the year-ago night with an original comedy (3.1 million and 1.1/3 for B---- in Apt 23 on 11/13/12).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 48% currently, from 46% at the same point in 2012. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-
to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
