During the week of November 11, 2013, ABC delivered 5 of the week's Top 20 non-sports broadcasts in Adults 18-49: "Modern Family" - No. 2, "Scandal" - No. 9, "Grey's Anatomy" - No. 12, "The Middle" - No. 16 (best-since-premiere rating) and "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." - No 19. In addition, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" outdrew NBC's "The Voice" as TV's most-watched unscripted series for the 3rd straight week and finished among the Top 10 programs overall for the 8th straight week this season.
· ABC is No. 1 season to date in Nielsen's non-sports averages. Based on non-sports programming (8 Weeks Complete - Most Current), ABC ranks No. 1 for the season in Adults 18-49 (2.6/7-tied w/CBS), leading NBC by 4% (2.5/8) and Fox by 18% (2.2/6). The Net also holds the No. 1 position in the non-sports ratings this season with Adults 18-34 (2.0/7-tied w/Fox), outdelivering NBC by 5% (1.9/7) and CBS by 25% (1.6/6).
Monday
ABC was Monday's most-watched broadcast network for the 2nd week in a row (11.7 million), leading NBC by 1% (11.6 million), Fox by 63% (7.2 million) and CBS by 72% (6.8 million). Topping the night, ABC's "Dancing" continued to pull in a larger audience than NBC's "The Voice" (12.6 million vs. 12.0 million).
"Dancing with the Stars" (8:00-10:01 p.m. - 12.6 million and 1.7/5 in AD18-49):
ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" ranked as Monday's most-watched entertainment show for the 3rd week running over NBC's "The Voice" (12.6 million vs. 12.0 million). Also, in its time period, "Dancing" outdrew CBS' 2-hour comedy block by 4.6 million viewers (8.0 million) and Fox's dramas by 5.4 million viewers (7.2 million). Elizabeth Berkley was eliminated this week.
"Castle" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 10.1 million and 2.0/6 in AD18-49):
Building on its Adult 18-49 lead-in (+18%) during the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Castle" more than doubled the audience of CBS' "Hostages" (+124% - 10.1 million vs. 4.5 million) and led by 82% with young adults (2.0/6 vs. 1.1/3).
Tuesday
ABC beat Fox's Tuesday comedy lineup (3.1 million and 1.4/4) by 1.6 million viewers (4.7 million vs. 3.1 million) and by 7% in Adults 18-49 (1.5/4 vs. 1.4/4).
"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." (8:00-9:01 p.m. - 6.7 million and 2.2/6 in AD18-49):
ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." ranked a solid second in its hour among Adults 18-49 to CBS' top-rated "NCIS," leading NBC's "The Biggest Loser" by 22% (1.8/5) and Fox's comedies by 69% ("Dads"/"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" = 1.3/4). "S.H.I.E.L.D." finished as the No. 1 series in the hour with Men 18-34 and Teens 12-17 (tie).
· On average, the new drama is more than doubling the Net's year-ago delivery with Adults 18-49 (+105%), ranking as its highest-rated series in the time slot since 2009.
"The Goldbergs" (9:01-9:30 p.m. - 5.1 million and 1.7/5 in AD18-49):
With its best-yet lead-in retention at 9:00 p.m., "The Goldbergs" topped Fox's "New Girl" (3.4 million) in the half-hour by 1.7 million viewers and tied the veteran comedy in Adults 18-49 to stand as Tuesday's most-watched comedy for the 8th week running. "The Goldbergs" was up week to week in viewers (+4%) and young adults (+13%), matching a 5-week high in Adults 18-49.
· Continuing to improve its time slot for ABC, "The Goldbergs" was up 16% in Total Viewers and 31% in Adults 18-49 over "Happy Endings" on the year-ago night (4.4 million and 1.3/4 on 11/13/12).
"Trophy Wife" (9:31-10:00 p.m. - 3.7 million and 1.2/3 in AD18-49):
In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Trophy Wife" outdrew Fox's "The Mindy Project" (2.7 million) by 1.0 million viewers. "Trophy Wife" was up week to week in Adults 18-49 (+9%).
· Like its lead-in, "Trophy Wife" boosted its half-hour by 19% in Total Viewers and by 9% in Adults 18-49 over the year-ago night with an original comedy (3.1 million and 1.1/3 for "B---- in Apt 23" on 11/13/12).
Wednesday
ABC's regular Wednesday line-up returned after the prior week's preemption to deliver a strong second place in Adults 18-49, beating Fox by 29% (1.7/5) and NBC by 57% (1.4/4). On its first original telecast in 3 weeks, ABC's "Modern Family" came back as Wednesday's No. 1 TV show in Adults 18-49, finishing as the night's top-rated series on each first-run telecast this season.
"The Middle" (8:00-8:30 p.m. - 8.9 million and 2.4/7 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., "The Middle" ranked No. 1 in its half-hour across all key Adult demos (AD18-34/AD18-49-tie/AD25-54-tie).
· "The Middle" was up 11% in Total Viewers and 9% in Adults 18-49, hitting 7-week highs with best-since-premiere results - since 9/25/13. In addition, the show hit a new season high in Adults 18-34 to tie its highest rating in 1 year - since 11/7/12.
"Back in the Game" (8:30-9:00 p.m. - 6.5 million and 1.8/5 in AD18-49):
In the 8:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Back in the Game" grew 7% in viewers and 6% in Adults 18-49 from its last telecast.
"Modern Family" (9:00-9:31 p.m. - 10.7 million and 3.8/11 in AD18-49):
More than doubling its lead-in at 9:00 p.m. (+111%), ABC's "Modern Family" dominated its slot in Adults 18-49, outdelivering runner-up CBS' "Criminal Minds" by 41% (2.7/7).
· "Modern Family" was up in Total Viewers (+4%) from its most-recent original (10.3 million on 10/23/13).
"Super Fun Night" (9:31-10:00 p.m. - 5.8 million and 2.0/6 in AD18-49):
In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Super Fun Night" took second in Adults 18-49, leading by double-digits over Fox's "The X Factor" (+11% - 1.8/5) and NBC's "L&O: SVU" (+18% - 1.7/5).
· The ABC freshman comedy built over its last broadcast by 12% in Total Viewers and by 18% in Adults 18-49, with its most-watched telecast in 4 weeks - since 10/16/13.
"Nashville" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 5.5 million and 1.5/5 in AD18-49):
At 10:00 p.m., ABC's "Nashville" finished No. 1 in its hour against its CBS and NBC competition with Adults 18-34 and key Women 18-34.
· The ABC drama increased from its last airing by 6% in Total Viewers and by 7% in Adults 18-49. In addition, the show jumped 30% in Adults 18-34 to match a 5-week high - since 10/9/13.
· Jumping 67% on average in the L+7 Adult 18-49 ratings, "Nashville" is ABC's biggest percentage gainer this season and places among the Top 10 broadcast series overall. The ABC sophomore drama gets a much bigger playback lift than its time-slot competitor "CSI" (67% vs. 50%), catching the CBS drama season to date at a 3.0 L7 rating.
Thursday
ABC earned second place on Thursday night in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6), leading NBC by 24% (1.7/5 - with "The Voice" leading off the night) and Fox by 50% (1.4/4 with "The X Factor"/"Glee"). In Adults 18-49, ABC's "Scandal" and "Grey's Anatomy" ranked as the No. 2 and No. 3 TV series of the night, respectively, behind only CBS' "The Big Bang Theory," and ranked as Thursday's top-rated dramas.
· On average, ABC's Thursday night delivery is up year to year with young adults (+3%).
"Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 3.6 million and 0.9/3 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-9:00 p.m., ABC's "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" nearly tied Fox's "The X Factor Results" in Total Viewers (3.6 million vs. 3.7 million).
· Based on just-released 24-day playback data (DVR/VOD/Online) for the October 10 debut episode of "Wonderland," the ABC freshman drama saw its viewer count jump by 60% up to 9.3 million (5.8 million in L+SD + 1.8 million with VOD days 1-3 and L7 + 1.7 million with VOD days 4-24 and online days 1-24).
"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 8.7 million and 2.7/7 in AD18-49):
Tripling its lead-in at 9:00 p.m. (+200%), ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" once again led its hour by wide margins in Adults 18-49 (2.7/7), outdelivering CBS' comedies by 29% ("The Crazy Ones"/"Two and a Half Men" = 2.1/6), Fox's "Glee" by 80% (1.5/4) and NBC's comedies by 125% ("Sean Saves the World"/"The Michael J. Fox Show" = 1.2/3).
· "Grey's Anatomy" was up week to week by 4% in Adults 18-49 and by 15% in Adults 18-34.
"Scandal" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 8.7 million and 2.8/8 in AD18-49):
Finishing No. 1 during the 10 o'clock hour among Adults 18-49, ABC's "Scandal" (2.8/8) dominated CBS' "Elementary" by 56% (1.8/5) and NBC's "Parenthood" by 115% (1.3/4).
· "Scandal" was up substantially from its telecast on the same night last year (6.1 million and 1.9/5 on 11/8/12). On average, "Scandal" is TV's fastest-growing returning series this season, up over the same point last year by 41% in Total Viewers and by 54% in Adults 18-49 to its best numbers ever. In fact, "Scandal" is ABC's top program in the Thursday 10:00 p.m. hour since "Lost" during the 2007-08 season.
Social Stats: "Scandal" continued its run as Thursday's No. 1 most social TV series with 186,539 tweets.
Friday
ABC earned second place on Friday night, beating NBC (4.9 million and 1.2/4) and Fox (3.7 million and 1.0/3).
· For the 9th week in a row, ABC's "Shark Tank" was Friday's No. 1 TV show on the major networks in Adults 18-49 (1.7/5-tie).
· ABC's "20/20" continued its run as Friday's No. 1 newsmagazine, outperforming NBC's "Dateline" (8:00-9:00 p.m.) in Total Viewers (+8% - 6.4 million vs. 5.9 million), Adults 18-49 (+18% - 1.3/4 vs. 1.1/4) and Adults 25-54 (+13% - 1.8/5 vs. 1.6/5).
"Shark Tank" (9:00-10:01 p.m. - 6.5 million and 1.7/5 in AD18-49): Growing over its lead-in by 113% at 9:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49, ABC's "Shark Tank" once again led over CBS' "Hawaii Five-0" (+6% - 1.6/5), NBC's "Grimm" (+6% - 1.6/5) and Fox's comedies (+113% - "Raising Hope"/"Raising Hope" - 0.8/2).
20/20 (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 6.4 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49): During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "20/20" more than doubled the audience of NBC's "Dracula" (+113% - 6.4 million vs. 3.0 million), while leading by 44% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 0.9/3) and by 50% in Adults 25-54 (1.8/5 vs. 1.2/3). "20/20" featured a look into the real estate business, including landlords from hell, selling a hoarder's home and moving companies. "20/20" was up 7% week to week in Total Viewers (6.4 million vs. 6.0 million) to deliver its 3rd-biggest audience this season.
Saturday
With college football coverage (Stanford at USC), ABC ranked as the No. 1 broadcaster on the night, beating Fox with college football (3.2 million and 1.0/5 from 8:00-10:00 p.m.) by 1.3 million Total Viewers and by 10% in Adults 18-49. ABC was up over the prior week by 67% in Total Viewers and by 120% in Adults 18-49.
"Saturday Night Football" (8:06-11:36 p.m. - 5.0 million and 1.4/5 in AD18-49): ABC's "Saturday Night Football" was the evening's No. 1 program in Adults 18-49 and across all key Men demos (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54). "Saturday Night Football" was up over the prior week by 2.0 million Total Viewers and by 133% in Adults 18-49.
Sunday
"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m. - 6.4 million and 1.4/4 in AD18-49):
In the 7 o'clock hour, "America's Funniest Home Videos" was up 8% week to week in Adults 18-49 to match a season high.
"Once Upon a Time" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 6.7 million and 1.9/5 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., against Fox's NFL-overrun boosted debut of "Almost Human," ABC's "Once Upon a Time" surged 36% over its lead-in with young adults, holding steady with its week-earlier Total Viewer count and pacing within 2-tenths of a rating point in Adults 18-49. In addition, the ABC drama retained 100% week to week in Women 18-49 and was up 7% in Teens 12-17.
· "Once Upon a Time" continued to rank as Sunday night's most-social broadcast series with 63,941 tweets, up 13% from the previous week's episode.
"Revenge" (9:00-10:01 p.m. - 5.8 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):
In the 9:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "Revenge" grew over the prior week by 5% in Total Viewers and by 15% in Adults 18-49.
"Betrayal" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 3.4 million and 0.9/2 in AD18-49):
During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Betrayal" built week to week by 6% in Total Viewers and by 13% in Adults 18-49.
