Saturday's broadcast featured Peter Van Sant and 48 HOURS' report on the murder of one-time millionaire Lanny Horwitz, who was shot nine times and left in a pool of blood in the bathroom of his Jupiter, Fla. home. His ex-wife, Donna, who was supposedly reconciling with Lanny, was in the connected bedroom. Radley, his son, a former gun dealer, was also in the home. The police investigation uncovered a deeply troubled family struggling with debt, a father with an unusually close relationship with his female business partner, and a patriarch who allegedly was hard on his son and his ex-wife.
In the hours immediately after Lanny was killed, police looked closely at the two survivors who remained in the home, as well as potential suspects outside the home.
Ultimately, Lanny's ex-wife, Donna, was charged. At trial, her defense attorney argued Radley had the motive to kill his father, but a jury didn't buy that defense and Donna was convicted.
