During the week of March 3, 2014, ABC aired 5 of the Top 20 TV shows in Adults 18-49, placing 3 in the Top 10 and delivering the Top 2 broadcast dramas with the debut of "Resurrection" and "Scandal," respectively: "Resurrection" - No. 5 (tied as TV's top-rated mid-season drama debut in 5 years - since 1/21/09), "Modern Family" - No. 6, "Scandal" - No. 9 (No. 1 10:00 p.m. drama), "Grey's Anatomy" - No. 12 and "Once Upon a Time" - No. 19. ABC's "20/20" stood as the No. 1 newsmagazine in Adults 18-49 for the 6th consecutive week.
· For the 2nd week in a row, ABC was up from the same week last year in Total Viewers (+9% - 5.9 million vs. 5.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (+13% - 1.7/5 vs. 1.5/4).
· In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, the Net posted its strongest non-Oscar week since November - since weeks of 11/25/13 and 11/18/13, respectively.
Monday
"The Bachelor: The Women Tell All" (8:00-9:32 p.m. - 8.2 million and 2.3/6 in AD18-49):
During its time period against NBC's "The Voice" and CBS' comedies, ABC's special "The Bachelor: The Women Tell All" beat out Fox's dramas ("Almost Human" finale/"The Following") by 44% among Adults 18-49 (2.3/6 vs. 1.6/4). In addition, the ABC unscripted series finished second to "The Voice" in the time slot with key Women (W18-34/W18-49).
"Mixology-R" (9:32-10:01 p.m. - 3.6 million and 1.1/3 in AD18-49):
A repeat telecast of the "Mixology" series debut episode from last Wednesday gained additional sampling of 3.6 million viewers, on top of its premiere average of 5.0 million.
"Castle" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 8.4 million and 1.6/4 in AD18-49):
Spiking over its lead-in (+133%/+45%) to earn second place at 10:00 p.m., ABC's "Castle" outperformed CBS' "Intelligence" in the hour by wide margins in Total Viewers (+56% - 8.4 million vs. 5.4 million) and in Adults 18-49 (+33% - 1.6/4 vs. 1.2/3). Season to date, "Castle" is up in Total Viewers (+11%) and Adults 18-49 (+8%) over the same point a year ago, tracking as the series' best season ever.
Tuesday
"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." (8:00-9:01 p.m. - 5.5 million and 1.8/6 in AD18-49):
On its first original telecast in 4 weeks (since 2/4/14) and facing NBC's "The Voice" for the first time since October, ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." tied CBS' top-rated "NCIS" in the 8:00 p.m. hour among Adults 18-34 (1.2/4) and led by 40% in Men 18-34 (1.4/6 vs. 1.0/4), holding the No. 1 scripted series position in the hour for its 14th straight first-run telecast with young men. In addition, the new ABC drama more than doubled the overall audience of Fox's "Glee" in the slot (+112% - 5.5 million vs. 2.6 million), while holding an 80% advantage in Adults 18-49 (1.8/6 vs. 1.0/3). "S.H.I.E.L.D." improved its hour year to year for ABC by 34% in Total Viewers and by 20% in Adults 18-49, over original programming on the same night last year (4.1 million and 1.5/4 for "Celebrity Wife Swap").
"The Goldbergs" (9:01-9:31 p.m. - 4.2 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):
In the 9:00 p.m. half-hour, ABC freshman "The Goldbergs" once again defeated Fox's "New Girl" (2.9 million and 1.5/4), leading by 1.3 million viewers, and tied in Adults 18-49. "The Goldbergs" boosted its half-hour for ABC over the same night last year with original programming by 31% in Total Viewers and by 25% in Adults 18-49 (3.2 million and 1.2/3 for "The Taste").
"Trophy Wife" (9:31-10:00 p.m. - 2.6 million and 0.8/2 in AD18-49):
In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Trophy Wife" matched the audience of Fox's highly-promoted "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (2.6 million).
Wednesday
For the 2nd week in a row, ABC delivered Wednesday's No. 1 TV show in Adults 18-49, with "Modern Family" (3.4/10) increasing its lead over runner-up Fox's "American Idol" to 26% (2.7/8), up from a 15% advantage the prior week.
"The Middle" (8:00-8:30 p.m. - 7.3 million and 1.9/6 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "The Middle" grew by 12% week to week in Adults 18-49.
"Suburgatory" (8:30-9:00 p.m. - 5.7 million and 1.7/5 in AD18-49):
At 8:30 p.m., "Suburgatory" shot up 21% in Adults 18-49 to match its 2nd-highest number this season. In fact, the ABC comedy was the biggest week-to-week gainer on the broadcast nets.
"Modern Family" (9:00-9:31 p.m. - 9.2 million and 3.4/10 in AD18-49):
Doubling its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 9:00 p.m. (+100%), ABC's "Modern Family" gained 10% over the prior week and dominated its half-hour.
"Mixology" (9:31-10:00 p.m. - 4.6 million and 1.7/5 in AD18-49):
In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Mixology" retained 100% of its week-ago debut in Adults 18-49 and beat the second half-hour of NBC's "L&O: SVU" by 6% (1.7/5 vs. 1.6/4).
"Nashville" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 45.1 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):
During the 10:00 p.m. hour, "Nashville" increased 15% over the prior week in Adults 18-49 to equal a 13-week high - since 12/4/13. "Nashville" is ABC's top percentage gainer this season via TV Playback, with originals spiking by 69% from L+SD to L+7 to average a 2.7 Adult 18-49 rating in the finals.
Thursday
ABC finished a strong second on Thursday night in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6), outdelivering Fox by 40% (1.5/5) and NBC by 91% (1.1/3). For the 2nd week in a row, the Net ranked No. 1 on the night in Adults 18-34 (tie) and key Women (W18-34/W18-49).
· ABC's "Scandal" (2.8/8) and "Grey's Anatomy" (2.6/7) were the Top 2 dramas of the night in Adults 18-49. In fact, "Scandal" is on track to finish as the week's No. 1 broadcast drama.
"Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 3.3 million and 0.9/3 in AD18-49):
On its first telecast in 3 months (since 12/12/13) and facing "American Idol" for the first time, ABC's "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" returned up 13% in Adults 18-49 from its winter finale. From 8:00-9:00 p.m., the ABC freshman drama outdrew NBC's comedies by 14% in Total Viewers (3.3 million vs. 2.9 million for "Community"/"Parks and Recreation").
"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 8.2 million and 2.6/7 in AD18-49):
Nearly tripling its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 9:00 p.m. (+189%), ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" (2.6/7) once again won its hour, leading its nearest competition by 24% ("Two and a Half Men"/"The Crazy Ones" = 2.1/6).
"Scandal" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 8.5 million and 2.8/8 in AD18-49):
Building on its "Grey's" lead-in among Adults 18-49 at 10:00 p.m. (+8%), ABC's "Scandal" (2.8/8) dominated the final hour of the night, beating CBS' "Elementary" by 56% (1.8/5) and NBC's "Parenthood" by 133% (1.2/4). "Scandal" was Thursday's No. 1 most-social TV program (310,485 tweets).
Friday
ABC won on Friday among Adults 18-49 (1.7/6) for the 2nd week in a row, beating original lineups on CBS by 121% (1.4/5) and NBC by 21% (1.3/4). In fact, the Network led its 6th consecutive non-Olympic Friday. ABC grew week to week in Adults 18-49 (+6%) for the 3rd week in a row to tie its strongest Friday this season.
· ABC's "Shark Tank" (2.1/7) and "20/20" (1.8/6) continued to rank as Friday's Top 2 TV programs in Adults 18-49. ABC's "20/20" was also the night's No. 1 newsmagazine, beating out NBC's "Dateline" in Total Viewers and key Adults (AD18-49/AD25-54).
"Last Man Standing" (8:00-8:31 p.m. - 6.4 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "Last Man Standing" ranked No. 1 in its half-hour in Adults 18-49 (tie) and was up 8% week to week.
"The Neighbors" (8:31-9:00 p.m. - 3.6 million and 0.9/3 in AD18-49):
In the 8:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "The Neighbors" once again finished as the No. 2 comedy of the night in Adults 18-49, behind only "Last Man Standing," outdelivering Fox's "Enlisted" by 29% (0.7/2 at 9:00 p.m.) and "Raising Hope" by 80% (0.5/2 at 9:30 p.m.).
"Shark Tank" (9:00-10:01 p.m. - 7.7 million and 2.1/7 in AD18-49):
Spiking over its lead-in by 133% at 9:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49, ABC's "Shark Tank" outdelivered its closest broadcaster in the hour by 40% (2.1/7 vs. 1.5/5 - NBC's "Grimm"). "Shark Tank" matched its 2nd-best Adult 18-49 number of the season. Season to date, "Shark Tank" is up double digits in Total Viewers (+12%) and Adults 18-49 (+10%) over the same point last year, tracking as the series' best-ever season.
"20/20" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 7.7 million and 1.8/6 in AD18-49):
For the 2nd week in row, ABC's "20/20" dominated the 10 o'clock hour in Adults 18-49 (1.8/6), beating CBS' "Blue Bloods" by 29% (1.4/5) and NBC's "Hannibal" by 125% (0.8/3). The ABC newsmagazine also won the hour for the 2nd straight week in the key Adult 25-54 news demo. From dry cleaners, nail salons, and movie theaters, to baggage handlers and movers, "20/20" reported on shocking disclosures and secrets of their trades. "20/20" was up week to week in Total Viewers (+5%) and tied its 2nd-highest ratings this season in Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54. Up for the 2nd year in a row, "20/20" is growing 19% in Total Viewers season to date and is on track to deliver its most-watched season in 4 years - since the 2009-10 season.
Sunday
With the mid-season return of "Once Upon a Time," the series debut of "Resurrection" and the time-period premiere of "Revenge," ABC led the pack on Sunday in Adults 18-49 (2.3/7), outdelivering all-original lineups on Fox by 35% (1.7/5) and CBS by 44% (1.6/5). ABC's "Resurrection" opened as Sunday's No. 1 broadcast in both Total Viewers (13.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.8/10).
· As "Once Upon a Time" returned up 26% in Adults 18-49, all 4 of ABC's dramas with split-season schedules came back ahead of their Winter Finales: "Grey's" +15%, "Scandal" +6% and "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" +13%.
· Excluding only the "Oscars" and the "AMAs," ABC marked its strongest Sunday this season in Total Viewers (8.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.3/7).
"Once Upon a Time" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 7.7 million and 2.4/7 in AD18-49):
Returning for its first telecast in 3 months (since 12/15/13), ABC's "Once Upon a Time" came back with strong increases in Total Viewers (+20%) and Adults 18-49 (+26%), hitting its best numbers since October - since 10/6/13 and 10/13/13, respectively. In addition, the show was up over its performance on the same night last year in Total Viewers (+1%) and Adults 18-49 (+4%).
"Resurrection" (9:00-10:01 p.m. - 13.9 million and 3.8/10 in AD18-49):
Spiking over its lead-in by 6.2 million viewers and by 58% in young adults at 9:00 p.m. and gaining audience from start to finish, ABC's "Resurrection" opened as TV's top-rated mid-season drama in 2 years among Adults 18-49 (since 2/6/12), tying as the highest in more than 5 years (since 1/21/09). In addition, it was the 2013-14 Season's 2nd-strongest drama opener in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 (tied with "The Voice"-led "The Blacklist" in Adults 18-49 on 9/23/13), behind only CBS' "Intelligence" coming out of "NCIS" (on 1/7/14) and the debut of ABC's "S.H.I.E.L.D." (on 9/24/13), respectively. In addition, the new show generated ABC's largest audience with a series in the time period since January 2010 and its highest Adult 18-49 number since January 2011 - since 1/10/10 and 1/9/11, respectively.
"Revenge" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 6.6 million and 1.9/5 in AD18-49):
Moving into the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "Revenge" was up double digits from its most recent telecast 2 months ago (on 1/19/14) in Total Viewers (+22%) and Adults 18-49 (+46%). In Adults 18-49, "Revenge" earned the show's best number since early-October and delivered ABC's top series rating in the slot since September 2012 - since 10/6/13 and 9/30/12, respectively.
