DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS RECORDS DELIVERY GAINS ACROSS U.S. PORTOLIO IN MAY 2014
(Silver Spring, Md.) - Driven by strong performances from new and returning series across its suite of must-have networks, Discovery Communications' U.S. portfolio grew +4% in P25-54 Prime delivery in May 2014 vs. May 2013.
Discovery Channel recorded gains across all key demos for Prime delivery vs. May 2013 including P2+, HH and P/M/W25-54. Deadliest Catch ranked as the #1 program in all of ad-supported cable among M25-54 delivery for May and Fast N' Loud was the #1 Monday night cable program among M25-54/18-49 delivery with an average delivery of 2.26M P2+.
TLC was a top 5 ad-supported cable network in Prime delivery among W18-49 and #6 among W25-54. Led by popular returning series 19 Kids and Counting and Little Couple, TLC was the #1 female ad-supported cable network on Tuesday night among W25-54/18-49 in May.
Investigation Discovery celebrated its best May ever in Prime delivery with P2+, HH and P/W25-54, and garnered strong double-digit gains across all key demos. With hit series The Perfect Murder and Nightmare Next Door, in May the network averaged 744K P2+ in May and secured its position as a top 10 network in ad-supported cable, ranking #7 among P25-54 and #4 among W25-54 in Total Day and #5 for both P25-54 and W25-54 in Daytime. The network also ranked #19 among P25-54 and #14 among W25-54 in Prime.
Animal Planet was a top 10 network for M25-54 in May, driven by the network's third annual Monster Week. River Monsters remains the top-performing series ever on the network, and has delivered 1.6M P2+ viewers during its 6th season to-date.
Destination America garnered double-digit delivery growth in Prime and Total Day for May 2014 in key demos, including P2+, HH, and P/W25-54/18-49. With hit series Mountain Monsters, BBQ Pitmasters, and Buying the Bayou, Destination America earned its best May ever in Prime and Total Day among P2+, HH, P/M/W25-54 and P/M/W18-49 delivery. The network has now experienced 24 consecutive months of year-over-year delivery gains in Prime P25-54.
Velocity earned its highest rated May for P25-54 and its highest delivering May across key demos including P2+, P/M25-54/18-49/18-34 and M18+. Led by series Wheeler Dealers and Graveyard Carz, Velocity has now seen 24 months of year-over-year Prime delivery gains among P/25-54/18-49.
Recently renamed American Heroes Channel garnered double-digit growth among all key demos in May. AHC has earned eight consecutive months of year-over-year Prime delivery gains for P2+ and has delivered 15 consecutive months of year-over-year gains in Total Day delivery among P2+ and HH.
With the success of Outrageous Acts of Science and Survivorman, Science Channel also recorded the best May in network history in Prime delivery among key demos including P2+, M18-49, and P/M25-54.
Buoyed by the strength of original series like My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic, Spooksville, and Family Game Night, the Hub Network had an impressive May, delivering year-over-year ratings gains in Total Day for K2-11/6-11 and P/W18-49/25-54 as well as gains in Prime among P/W18-49/25-54 and K6-11. For the ninth consecutive month, the Hub Network was the top children's network in co-viewing percentage share (36%) among K2-11 watching with P18-49.
OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network garnered a 15% increase among W25-54 Prime delivery vs. May 2013. The network's hit series Sweetie Pies, Iyanla: Fix My Life and Love In The City were Saturday night's top three original cable series among African-American W25-54 for the month.
