ABC's "Kimmel" Attracts its Biggest-Ever Audience for Any Quarter During 2Q14

Some early points on Jimmy Kimmel Live's numbers, ahead of the regular press release:

During the 2nd quarter of 2014, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live drew its biggest-ever audience for any quarter (2.672 million). Kimmel was the only late-night talk show at 11:35pm to grow its overall audience from the previous quarter (+1%), as NBC's The Tonight Show declined -31% and CBS' The Late Show was down -7%.

Kimmel was up over the 2nd quarter of last year by 7% in Total Viewers, growing over the year-ago 2Q for the 5th year in a row.

· ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live finished the quarter as the 2nd-most-watched late-night talk show, behind only NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

· Beating CBS' The Late Show with David Letterman for the 6th straight quarter among Adults 18-49, JKL beat the CBS late-night program by its largest margin ever (+31%). In fact, JKL outperformed Letterman on 12 of the 13 weeks of the quarter in the key young adult demo. In addition, Kimmel topped Letterman in Total Viewers for the first quarter ever (+1%).

During the week of June 23, 2014, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live was up over the prior week by 7% in Total Viewers and by 10% in Adults 18-49. In addition, Kimmel grew over the year-ago week in both Total Viewers (+8%) and Adults 18-49 (+4%).

· Kimmel ranked as the week's #2 talk show in late-night on broadcast and cable among Total Viewers (2.458 million) and Adults 18-49 (796,000).

ABC Late-Night (Monday - Friday)

During the 2nd quarter of 2014, ABC drew its largest audience for any quarter (2.346 million) since debuting its new late-night line-up of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" at 11:35 p.m. and "Nightline" at 12:35 a.m. - since 1Q13. The Net grew over both the year-ago quarter (+6%) and the previous quarter (+1%) in Total Viewers (2.220 million on 2Q13 and 2.322 million on 1Q14). In fact, ABC was the only broadcaster in late-night to grow over 1Q14 in Viewers (+1%), as NBC was down -32% and CBS declined -6%.

· ABC was the quarter's most-watched network in late-night, edging out NBC with its new late-night line-up of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and "Last Call with Carson Daly" (2.346 million vs. 2.344 million).

· ABC finished as the quarter's No. 2 broadcaster in late-night among Adults 18-49, beating CBS for the 9th consecutive quarter and with its largest-ever margin (+35% - 742,000 vs. 550,000).

During the week of June 23, 2014, ABC was up week to week by 5% in Total Viewers (2.117 million vs. 2.017 million) and by 8% in Adults 18-49 (680,000 vs. 630,000). In addition, ABC grew over the same week last year (2.018 million and 666,000 on w/o 6/24/13) in both Viewers (+5%) and young adults (+2%).

During the 2nd quarter of 2014, ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" drew its biggest-ever audience for any quarter (2.672 million). "Kimmel" was the only late-night talk show at 11:35 p.m. to grow its overall audience from the previous quarter (+1%), as NBC's "The Tonight Show" declined -31% and CBS' "The Late Show" was down -7%.

"Kimmel" was up over the 2nd quarter of last year by 7% in Total Viewers (vs. 2.499 million), growing over the year-ago 2Q for the 5th year in a row.

· Beating CBS' "The Late Show with David Letterman" among Adults 18-49 in each quarter since moving to its 11:35 p.m. time slot, ABC's "Kimmel" outdelivered the CBS late-night program by its largest quarter margin ever during 2Q14 (+31% - 845,000 vs. 644,000). In addition, "Kimmel" topped "Letterman" in Total Viewers for the first quarter ever (+1% - 2.672 million vs. 2.655 million).

During the week of June 23, 2014, ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" was up over the prior week by 7% in Total Viewers (2.458 million vs. 2.291 million) and by 10% in Adults 18-49 (796,000 vs. 724,000). In addition, "Kimmel" grew over the year-ago week (2.281 million and 764,000 on w/o 6/24/13) in both Viewers (+8%) and young adults (+4%).

· "Kimmel" ranked as the week's No. 2 talk show in late-night on broadcast and cable among Total Viewers (2.458 million) and Adults 18-49 (796,000), behind only NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."

"Nightline" (M-F 12:35 a.m.)

ABC's "Nightline" won 2Q14 in Total Viewers (1.693 million) versus its CBS and NBC competition, winning its first quarter ever in its new time slot, according to Nielsen Media Research. "Nightline" led NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (+111,000) and CBS' "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (+298,000). In addition, "Nightline" outperformed the CBS program by its largest-ever quarter margins across all key target demos: Total Viewers (+298,000), Adults 25-54 (+113,000) and Adults 18-49 (+72,000).

"Nightline" improved on its year-ago quarter performance in Total Viewers (+5%) - 1.613 million on 2Q13. In fact, "Nightline" delivered ABC's largest overall audience in the time period during a 2nd quarter in 12 years - since 2Q02.

During the week of June 23, 2014, ABC News' "Nightline" ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.448 million) for the 6th straight week versus its CBS and NBC competition, according to Nielsen Media Research. "Nightline" has ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers in 11 of the last 13 weeks. "Nightline" beat CBS' "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" by 181,000 Total Viewers and NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" by 177,000 Total Viewers.

· "Nightline" aired the Top 2 telecasts of the week in Total Viewers on Friday (1.859 million on 6/27/14) and Monday (1.420 million on 6/23/14), beating every telecast of the week of both NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and CBS' "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson."
