During the week of July 30, 2014, ABC aired 4 of the Top 20 programs in Adults 18-49: "The Bachelorette" - No. 6, "America's Funniest Home Videos" - No. 14, with "Modern Family" and "Wipeout" tied at No. 18. In addition, "The Bachelorette" ranked as the week's No. 1 telecast in Women 18-49 and Women 25-54. ABC's "20/20" was the No. 1 newsmagazine of the week in Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54.
· ABC improved week to week in both Total Viewers (+16% - 4.3 million vs. 3.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (+11% - 1.0/4 vs. 0.9/3).
· For the 2nd week in a row, ABC posted double-digit increases year to year in both Total Viewers (+13% - 4.3 million vs. 3.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (+11% - 1.0/4 vs. 0.9/3).
Monday
With "The Bachelorette" and "Mistresses," ABC was the most-watched TV network overall on Monday (5.9 million), while also ranking No. 1 on the night among Women 18-49 (2.4/7) and Women 25-54 (2.7/7). ABC's The Bachelorette was Monday's No. 1 TV show in key Women (W18-49/W25-54).
· ABC was up week to week in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 to deliver 5-week highs - since 6/2/14.
"The Bachelorette" (8:00-10:01 p.m. - 7.0 million and 1.8/6 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:01 p.m., "The Bachelorette" finished No. 1 in its 2-hour time period among Total Viewers (7.0 million), Adults 18-49 (1.8/6), Adults 18-34 and key Women (W18-49/W25-54), making ABC the most-watched network in the slot for its 6th straight telecast.
· "The Bachelorette" built for the 2nd consecutive week in Total Viewers (+8%) and Adults 18-49 (+13%), marking its most-watched telecast since its season premiere 7 weeks ago - since 5/19/14. In addition, the show equaled a best-since-premiere rating in Adults 18-49.
· "The Bachelorette" was the No. 1 most-social broadcast series (89,919 tweets) on Monday night for the 4th straight week.
"Mistresses" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 3.8 million and 0.9/3 in AD18-49):
During the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "Mistresses" beat CBS' "Under the Dome" for the first time ever among Women 18-34 (+9% - 1.2/4 vs. 1.1/4).
Tuesday
"Extreme Weight Loss" (8:00-10:00 p.m. - 3.5 million and 1.1/4 in AD18-49): From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC's "Extreme Weight Loss" gained week to week in Total Viewers (+3% - 3.5 million vs. 3.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (+22% - 1.1/4 vs. 0.9/3), hitting a 5-week high with young adults - since 6/3/14. In addition, the show spiked 40% from the prior week in Adults 18-34. "Extreme Weight Loss" grew its overall audience from the same night last year (+3%).
"Celebrity Wife Swap" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 3.3 million and 1.0/3 in AD18-49): During the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "Celebrity Wife Swap" was up over the prior week in Total Viewers (+3% - 3.3 million vs. 3.2 million) and held steady in Adults 18-49 (1.0/3), while also building across all key Women demos: +14% in W18-34, +17% in W18-49 and +13% in W25-54.
Wednesday
With encore comedy programming from 8:00-10:00 p.m. leading into an original "Motive" at 10:00 p.m., ABC was up week to week by 38% in Adults 18-49 (1.1/4) to match its 2nd-best performance on the night this summer.
· From 8:00-9:30 p.m., all 3 of ABC's sitcoms grew by double-digits over their week-ago repeats in Adults 18-49: "The Middle" (1.0/4) +11%, "The Goldbergs" (1.1/4) +22% and "Modern Family" (1.4/5) +40%. In fact, both "The Goldbergs" (tie) and "Modern Family" achieved 5-week highs in their respective time slots - since 6/4/14.
· A second encore airing of "The Middle" at 9:30 p.m. scored its best repeat number this summer among Adults 18-49.
· In the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Motive" was up over its most-recent original two weeks ago by 10% in Total Viewers (4.1 million vs. 3.8 million), 13% in Adults 18-49 (0.9/3 vs. 0.8/3) and 9% in Adults 25-54 (1.2/4 vs. 1.1/3).
Thursday
"Rookie Blue" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 5.1 million and 0.9/3 in AD18-49):
Building on its lead-in against all-original competition at 9:00 p.m., ABC's "Rookie Blue" (5.1 million) took a strong second to CBS' "Big Brother" in Total Viewers, beating NBC's comedy debuts by 65% ("Welcome to Sweden"/"Working the Engles" = 3.1 million) and more than doubling the audience of its drama competition on Fox (+122% - 2.3 million for "Gang Related"). In addition, "Rookie Blue" (0.9/3) outdelivered NBC's comedy premieres by 13% among Adults 18-49 (0.8/3) and also topped Fox's "Gang Related" by 29% in the demo (0.7/3).
· The ABC drama was up 13% week to week in Adults 18-49.
"NY Med" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 5.3 million and 0.9/3 in AD18-49):
Gaining on its lead-in at 10:00 p.m. and building throughout its telecast, ABC's "NY Med" was the most-watched TV show in its hour for the 3rd week running (5.3 million), outdrawing its original competition on NBC by 2.0 million viewers ("Last Comic Standing" = 3.3 million). The show also led the hour with Adults 25-54 (1.4/4).
· "NY Med" surged week to week in Total Viewers (+13%), Adults 25-54 (+27%) and Adults 18-49 (+29%), equaling season highs in both Adult demos.
Friday
With a repeat "Shark Tank" leading into originals of "WWYD?" and "20/20," ABC was the highest-rated major network on Friday night in Adults 18-49 (1.1/4), dominating NBC's all-original line-up by 22% (0.9/4).
· "20/20" ranked as Friday's No. 1 show in the key Adult 25-54 news demo (1.8/6) and as the top-rated show on the major nets in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5). In addition, "20/20" was the night's No. 1 newsmagazine in Total Viewers (6.4 million) and key Adult demos (A18-49/A25-54), beating NBC's "Dateline" (8:00-10:00 p.m.).
· "20/20" won its 10:00 p.m. time slot in Adults 18-49 and, for the 4th consecutive week, Adults 25-54.
· "20/20" was up over its year-ago telecast (on 7/12/13) by 60% in Total Viewers (6.4 million vs. 4.0 million), 18% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5 vs. 1.1/4) and 20% in Adults 25-54 (1.8/6 vs. 1.5/5).
Sunday
With a repeat "AFV" at 7:00 p.m., originals of "Wipeout" at 8:00 p.m. and "Rising Star" at 9:00 p.m. and a repeat "Castle" at 10:00 p.m., ABC ranked No. 1 on Sunday for the 2nd straight week in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4), beating CBS' all-original line-up (1.1/4).
"Wipeout" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 4.8 million and 1.4/5 in AD18-49):
In the 8 o'clock hour, ABC's "Wipeout" shot up week to week by double digits in Total Viewers (+30% - 4.8 million vs. 3.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (+27% - 1.4/5 vs. 1.1/4), hitting new season highs in both Nielsen measures. In fact, "Wipeout" attracted its largest audience for any single telecast and scored its highest young adult rating in nearly 2 years - since 8/23/12 and 9/6/12, respectively.
· ABC's broad-appealing unscripted series was the highest-rated broadcast program of the night in Kids 2-11 (1.3/5).
· "Wipeout" grew its hour for ABC over original programming on the year-ago night ("Celebrity Wife Swap" on 7/14/13) by 37% in Total Viewers (4.8 million vs. 3.5 million) and by 17% in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5 vs. 1.2/4).
"Rising Star" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 4.8 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49):
From 9:00-10:00 p.m., ABC's 1-hour "Rising Star" ranked as the No. 1 broadcast show among Adults 18-49 (1.3/4), beating CBS' "Unforgettable" by 44% (0.9/3).
· "Rising Star" was up over the prior week by 7% in Total Viewers (4.8 million vs. 4.5 million) and 8% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 1.2/4), posting a best-since premiere number in the latter measure. In addition, "Rising Star" soared week to week by 17% in Teens 12-17 (1.4/6 vs. 1.2/5) to match a series high.
· "Rising Star" improved its slot over original programming ("Whodunnit?" on 7/14/13) year to year for ABC, up by 55% in Total Viewers (4.8 million vs. 3.1 million) and 18% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 1.1/3).
