"THE TONIGHT SHOW," "LATE NIGHT" HANDILY OUTPERFORM TIMESLOT COMPETITION FOR WEEK OF JULY 28-AUG. 1
Fallon Matches Highest 18-49 Demo in Six Weeks and Is Better Than Combined Ratings of Both Kimmel and Letterman
NEW YORK - Aug. 7, 2014 - "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and "Late Night with Seth Meyers" have dominated the late-night ratings week of July 28-Aug. 1.
Fallon topped the combined results of ABC'S "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," while Meyers outrated Letterman and pulled within four-hundredths of a point of Kimmel, despite starting an hour later. Note that Kimmel, Letterman and Meyers aired rebroadcasts on Friday.
Fallon's 1.11 rating in 18-49 for the week outscored the combined 0.97 of "Kimmel" (0.56) and "Late Show" (0.41). Versus "Tonight's" results for the same week last year, Fallon was up +39% in adult 18-49 rating, to a 1.11 from a 0.80.
The 1.11 equals Fallon's highest 18-49 rating in six weeks, since averaging a 1.13 for the week of June 16-20.
At 12:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" beat Letterman (with a 0.52 rating vs. a 0.41) and finished within 0.04 of a point of Kimmel (0.52 vs. 0.56), despite a start time for Meyers that's an hour later than both Letterman's and Kimmel's.
Meyers grew versus the prior week for a second straight week in 18-49, up versus one week earlier by +2% (to a 0.52 from a 0.51) and up versus two weeks ago by +13% in 18-49 rating (0.52 vs. 0.46).
In the 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET slot, Meyers outrated CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" by a +126% margin in 18-49 (0.52 vs. 0.23) and topped ABC's "Nightline" by +69% in their head-to-head half-hour from 12:30-1 a.m. (0.59 vs. 0.35 for that half-hour). Meyers delivered bigger audiences than Ferguson in every key ratings measure - adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers - and also beat ABC's "Nightline" in their head-to-head half-hour in all key categories.
At 1:35 a.m. ET, encore telecasts of "Last Call with Carson Daly" outdelivered CBS's "Late Late Show" originals (with a 0.32 rating vs. a 0.23) and finished within three-hundredths of a point of ABC's "Nightline" (0.32 vs. 0.35), despite starting an hour later than both shows. Versus the same week last year, "Last Call" was up +10% in 18-49 rating (0.32 vs. 0.29).
