ABC ranked No. 1 during Week 3 of the season (w/o 10/06/14) in Nielsen's non-sports Adult 18-49 averages (1.9/6), outpacing NBC by 12% (1.7/5), CBS by 12% (1.7/5) and Fox by 36% (1.4/4). The Net aired 5 of the Top 10 broadcast entertainment programs (more than any other net), including the No. 1 freshman series ("How to Get Away with Murder"), the No. 1 freshman comedy ("black-ish") and the Top 3 dramas ("HTGAWM," "Scandal" and "Once Upon a Time"): "Modern Family" - No. 3, "How to Get Away with Murder" - No. 5, "Scandal" - No. 6, "black-ish" - No. 8 and "Once Upon a Time" - No. 9.
· ABC was up over the same week last year in Total Viewers (7.1 million vs. 7.0 million) and held steady among Adults 18-49 (1.8/6 vs. 1.8/5).
Monday
"Dancing with the Stars" (8:00-10:01 p.m. - 12.3 million and 1.8 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:01 p.m., ABC's "Dancing" ran in a near tie with NBC's "The Voice" in Total Viewers (12.3 million vs. 12.6 million).
"Castle" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 9.6 million and 1.9 in AD18-49):
In the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "Castle" beat out CBS' "NCIS: LA" for the 2nd straight week, leading by 10% in viewers (9.6 million vs. 8.7 million) and by 12% in Adults 18-49 (1.9 vs. 1.7).
· "Castle" held even with its year-ago telecast in Adults 18-49 (1.9/5 on 10/7/13).
Tuesday
"Selfie"/"Manhattan Love Story" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 3.4 million and 1.0 in AD18-49):
For the 2nd week in a row, ABC's "Selfie" (3.8 million) and "Manhattan Love Story" (3.0 million) ranked as Tuesday's most-watched comedies, leading by strong margins on the night over Fox's established comedies "New Girl" (2.6 million) and "The Mindy Project" (2.2 million).
"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 4.5 million and 1.6 in AD18-49):
Building on its lead-in at 9:00 p.m. against "The Voice" and "NCIS: New Orleans," ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." beat Fox's comedies ("New Girl"/"The Mindy Project") by 2.1 million viewers (4.5 million vs. 2.4 million) by 33% in Adult 18-49 (1.6 vs. 1.2).
"Forever" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 5.2 million and 1.2 in AD18-49):
From 10:00-11:00 p.m., "Forever" improved its hour year to year for ABC by 2.2 million viewers (5.3 million vs. 3.0 million) and by 33% in Adults 18-49 (1.2 vs. 0.9).
Wednesday
"The Middle" (8:00-8:30 p.m. - 7.4 million and 2.0 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "The Middle" took a strong second in its half-hour in Adults 18-49 (2.0) to CBS' "Survivor."
"The Goldbergs" (8:30-9:00 p.m. - 7.0 million and 2.2 in AD18-49):
For the 3rd consecutive week in its new 8:30 p.m. time slot, ABC's "The Goldbergs" built on its Adult 18-49 lead-in (+15%) out of "The Middle" and improved its half-hour year to year (+22% over "Back in the Game" = 2.2 vs. 1.8).
· "The Goldbergs" was up from its year-ago Tuesday telecast (on 10/8/13) for the 2nd week in a row in Total Viewers (+21% - 7.0 million vs. 5.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (+16% - 2.2 vs. 1.9) coming out of "S.H.I.E.L.D." at 9:00 p.m.
"Modern Family" (9:00-9:31 p.m. - 10.3 million and 3.5 in AD18-49):
ABC's "Modern Family" gained 59% over its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 9:00 p.m. to rank as Wednesday's No. 1 TV show for the 3rd straight week this season (3.5).
"black-ish" (9:31-10:00 p.m. - 7.9 million and 2.8 in AD18-49):
Delivering an improved 80% lead-in retention week to week in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "black-ish" was the No. 2 broadcast show of the night in Adults 18-49 (2.8), behind only "Modern Family."
· "black-ish" improved its half-hour year to year by 12% in Adults 18-49 (2.5/7 - "Super Fun Night" on 10/9/13).
"Nashville" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 5.4 million and 1.4 rating in AD18-49):
During the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "Nashville" finished in a virtual tie with NBC's "Chicago P.D." in Adults 18-49 (1.4 vs. 1.5).
Thursday
Opposite CBS' Thursday Night Football, ABC led its nearest non-sports competition on the night by strong margins in Total Viewers (+88% - 9.6 million vs. 5.1 million - Fox) and Adults 18-49 (+142% - 2.9/9 vs. 1.2/4 - Fox and NBC tied). For the 3rd straight week this season, the Net delivered the Top 3 entertainment shows on the night with "How to Get Away with Murder" (10.8 million and 3.1/10), "Scandal" (9.5 million and 3.0/9) and "Grey's" (8.5 million and 2.4/8).
· ABC's "Scandal" and "How to Get Away with Murder" were the night's most social entertainment programs and are once again tracking as the week's Top 2 broadcast dramas in Adults 18-49.
· For the 3rd week in a row, ABC's Thursday was up from the year-ago night (7.9 million and 2.5/7 on 10/10/13) in Total Viewers (+22%) and Adults 18-49 (+16%).
"Grey's Anatomy" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 8.5 million and 2.4/8 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" ranked as the clear No. 1 non-sports program, beating runner-up Fox's "Bones" by 33% in Total Viewers (8.5 million vs. 6.4 million) and by 50% in Adults 18-49 (2.4/8 vs. 1.6/5).
· "Grey's" continued to grow its new time period year to year (5.8 million and 1.7/5 for the "Wonderland" premiere on 10/10/13).
"Scandal" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 9.5 million and 3.0/9 in AD18-49):
Gaining from its lead-in during the 9:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "Scandal" more than doubled Fox's competing drama "Gracepoint" (3.8 million and 0.9/3) and NBC's comedies ("Bad Judge"/"A to Z" = 4.4 million and 1.2/3).
· "Scandal" was up over the year-ago telecast of "Grey's" in the hour (8.8 million and 2.8/8). The ABC drama was also up from its own year ago telecast by 6% in Total Viewers.
"How to Get Away with Murder" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 10.8 million and 3.1/10 in AD18-49):
Building on its lead-in at 10:00 p.m., ABC's "How to Get Away with Murder" delivered strong triple-digit advantages over NBC's "Parenthood" in Total Viewers (+151% - 10.8 million vs. 4.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (+138% - 3.1/10 vs. 1.3/4). "HTGAWM" is tracking as the week's No. 1 show in the 10 o'clock hour.
· "How to Get Away with Murder" built on the year-ago telecast of "Scandal" in the hour by 1.8 million viewers and equaled it in Adults 18-49 ("Scandal" on 10/10/13 = 9.0 million and 3.1/9).
Friday
ABC Friday Prime (8:00-11:00 p.m. - 6.3 million and 1.5/5 in AD18-49): ABC ranked No. 1 for the 3rd straight Friday this season in Adults 18-49, leading CBS by 25% (1.5/5 vs. 1.2/4). Also for the 3rd week running, ABC's "Shark Tank" was Friday's No. 1 TV show in the key young adult sales demo.
"Last Man Standing" (8:00-8:31 p.m. - 6.6 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49)
For the 2nd week in a row, "Last Man Standing" ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers in its 8:00 p.m. time slot, drawing a larger audience than CBS' "The Amazing Race" (6.6 million vs. 5.9 million). The ABC sitcom also beat "Amazing Race" in Adults 18-49 (+9% - 1.2/5 vs. 1.1/4).
"Cristela" (8:31-9:00 p.m. - 6.5 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49)
On its series debut at 8:30 p.m., "Cristela" opened as the No. 1 most-watched show in its 8:30 p.m. half-hour (6.5 million) and became the first comedy telecast in nearly 2 years to build on an original "Last Man Standing" among Adults 18-49 (+8% - 1.3/5 vs. 1.2/5) - since 11/9/12. In Adults 18-49, "Cristela" opened higher than Fox's "Family Guy"-led debut of "Mulaney" (1.0/3 on 10/5) and NBC's Thursday debut of "A to Z" (1.2/3 on 10/2), while tying "Bad Judge" (1.3/4 on 10/2). In fact, at 6.5 million viewers, it was TV's No. 2 most-watched comedy debut this season overall, behind only ABC's "black-ish."
"Shark Tank" (9:00-10:01 p.m. - 7.3 million and 2.0/7 in AD18-49)
From 9:00-10:00 p.m., ABC's "Shark Tank" shot to the top of its time period in Adults 18-49, leading by 67% over CBS' "Hawaii Five-0" (1.2/4). Up over the prior week in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, "Shark Tank" hit new season highs. "Shark Tank" was also up over its year-ago telecast (6.5 million and 1.7/6 on 10/11/13) in Total Viewers (+12%) and Adults 18-49 (+18%).
"20/20" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 5.0 million and 1.2/4 in AD18-49)
ABC's "20/20" continued to rank as the night's No. 1 newsmagazine, beating NBC's "Dateline" (9:00-11:00 p.m.) by 9% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 vs. 1.1/4) and by 13% in Adults 25-54 (1.7/5 vs. 1.5/4).
Saturday
With coverage of the "NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in Concord," ABC ranked as the No. 1 broadcaster on Saturday night in Total Viewers (5.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.3/5), topping Fox with coverage of the MLB Playoffs: NLCS game 1 (5.0 million and 1.2/4). Up week to week by 9% in Total Viewers (5.1 million vs. 4.7 million), ABC drew its largest Saturday night audience this season.
· The "NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in Concord" was the night's most-watched TV program (5.1 million), outdrawing Fox's MLB game (5.0 million).
· Up over the most-recent NASCAR race (4.9 million and 1.1/4 on 9/6/14) by 4% in Total Viewers and 18% in Adults 18-49, the "Sprint Cup Series in Concord" scored ABC's highest numbers in the NASCAR franchise this year.
Sunday
Up against NBC's Sunday Night Football (Giants-Eagles) and an NFL overrun-driven Fox, ABC outdelivered its non-sports competition on CBS Sunday night by 23% in Adults 18-49 (1.6/4 vs. 1.3/4). ABC's "Once Upon a Time" was Sunday's No. 1 broadcast drama in Adults 18-49 (2.7/7).
· The Net grew year to year on Sunday for the 3rd consecutive week this season in both Total Viewers (+9% - 5.9 million vs. 5.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (+7% - 1.6/4 vs. 1.5/4).
"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m. - 5.5 million and 1.2/4 in AD18-49):
During the 7:00 p.m. hour opposite Fox's huge NFL overrun, ABC's 25th season premiere of "America's Funniest Home Videos" was up over its year-ago opener in Total Viewers (+4% - 5.5 million vs. 5.3 million) and held steady with Adults 18-49 (1.2/4). Opposite the stiff competition, the ABC video-clip show shot up from its first to second half-hour by 37% in Total Viewers and by 56% in Adults 18-49.
"Once Upon a Time" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 7.9 million and 2.7/7 in AD18-49):
More than doubling its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 8:00 p.m. (+125%), ABC's "Once Upon a Time" beat CBS' "Madam Secretary" by 93% (2.7/7 vs. 1.4/4). The ABC drama was the No. 1 most social non-sports broadcast on Sunday with 64,301 tweets.
· For the 3rd straight week, "Once Upon a Time" was up from its year-ago telecast in Total Viewers (+5% - 7.9 million vs. 7.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (+13% - 2.7/7 vs. 2.4/6).
"Resurrection" (9:00-10:01 p.m. - 5.5 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):
From 9:00-10:00 p.m., ABC's "Resurrection" once again defeated CBS' "The Good Wife" (+15% - 1.5/4 vs. 1.3/3) in Adults 18-49 and Fox's NFL-assisted comedy combo (+7% - "Family Guy-R"/"Mulaney" = 1.4/4).
"Revenge" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 4.7 million and 1.2/3 in AD18-49):
During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Revenge" improved its hour year to year by 62% in Total Viewers (4.7 million vs. 2.9 million) and by 50% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/3 vs. 0.8/2).
