OWN's Tuesday and Wednesday Nights Are #1 For African-American Women
Los Angeles - OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network closed out 2014 with its third consecutive year of double-digit growth, up +15% in total viewers in prime vs. 2013. OWN is the only top 40 cable network to claim three successive years of double-digit prime growth in total viewers. Additionally, OWN's prime average in W25-54 was up +3% and its African-American W25-54 prime average grew +12% vs. last year. In 2014, OWN ranked as a Top 30 cable network for W25-54 for the first time in network history at #29 (up +3 spots from the previous year).
Bolstered by the hit drama series "The Haves and the Have Nots" from Tyler Perry, which was the #1 original cable series for African-American women and ranked as the #5 original scripted series among ad-supported cable networks in W25-54 for the year averaging over 3 million viewers, OWN was Tuesday night's #1 network on all of TV for African-American women and the night's #1 cable network for African-American total viewers. The network was also Wednesday night's #1 cable network for African-American women with comedy series "For Better or Worse" and "Love Thy Neighbor" from Tyler Perry ranking as the night's top two original cable series for African-American women.
In addition, OWN was Saturday night's #3 network on all of TV for African-American women, and featured the night's top 13 original series on ad-supported cable for African-American women. Saturday night series included: "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's," "Iyanla: Fix My Life," "Deion's Family Playbook," "Six Little McGhees," "Raising Whitley" and "Flex & Shanice."
