L+7 Ratings: ABC's Modern Family and black-ish Finish the Season with Playback Series Highs
Live + 7 Day Ratings for the week of 5/18/15 (Week #35):
The season finales of ABC's Modern Family and black-ish scored their largest-ever L+7 lifts, soaring +91% and +63%, respectively, over their L+SD ratings. Modern Family soared to a 4.4 rating among Adults 18-49 after 7 days of TV playback, moving out of a tie with CBS' Survivor finale (3.1 rating) to rank as Wednesday #1 TV show by 42%.
In the final Live + 7 Day ratings, Modern Family emerged as the week's #1 broadcast show among Adults 18-49, leapfrogging over the finales of the Monday (3.0 rating) and Tuesday (3.4 rating) editions of NBC's The Voice.
Season-to-Date TV Playback (9/22/14-5/20/15):
Based on L+7 ratings for the complete 2014-15 broadcast season, ABC was #1 in Nielsen's non-sports Adult 18-49 averages (2.2 rating-tied with CBS), leading by double digits over NBC (+10% - 2.0) and Fox (+22% - 1.8). Growing to a 2.2 L+7 rating among Adults 18-49 in the non-sports numbers, ABC was even year to year (2.2 for 9/23/13-5/21/14), while CBS (-4%), Fox (-10%) and NBC (-13%) each declined.
Based on TV playback data for the 2014-15 season, ABC claimed 4 of the Top 10 biggest gainers among Adults 18-49 on the broadcast networks (the most for any network): Modern Family (+2.1 rating points) - #2, How To Get Away with Murder (+2.0) - #4, Scandal (+1.6) - #6 and Grey's Anatomy (+1.5) - #7.
Among Adults 18-49 in the L+7 ratings, ABC had the Top 2 dramas on Thursday with HTGAWM (5.0 rating) and Scandal (4.5), the #1 show on Friday with Shark Tank (2.5) and the #1 broadcast series on Sunday with Once Upon a Time (3.3).
Several of ABC's returning series saw bigger percentage gains among Adults 18-49 from L+SD to L+7 this season than last: The Bachelor (+25% vs. +24%), DWTS (+25% vs. +14%), Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (+75% vs. +67%), The Middle (+35% vs. +24%), Modern Family (+66% vs. +60%), Nashville (+77% vs. +73%), Scandal (+55% vs. +53%) and Shark Tank (+39% vs. +37%).
