ACROSS THE BOARD CBS NEWS' ORIGINAL REPORTING IS DRAWING MORE VIEWERS THAN A YEAR AGO, WITH 180.9 MILLION PEOPLE WATCHING ALL OR PART OF A CBS NEWS BROADCAST, SINCE SEPTEMBER
Every CBS News broadcast - morning, evening and primetime - is drawing more viewers now, than at this point a year ago, according to Nielsen television year-to-date ratings, through the week ending June 12, 2015.
In fact, since the television year began on Sept. 22, 2104, an estimated 180.9 million people have watched all or part of a CBS News broadcast, some 74.7 million of them in the advertiser-desired 25-54 demographic, according to Nielsen most-current ratings.
The draw of CBS News' original reporting is across the board, including: CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY; 60 MINUTES, FACE THE NATION, CBS THIS MORNING, CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD; 48 HOURS; and CBS THIS MORNING SATURDAY.
CBS News broadcasts last week featured Holly Williams and Anthony Mason's reports on the economic turmoil in Greece; John Dickerson's interview of Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH); Lee Cowan's profile of country star Alan Jackson; Peter Van Sant's investigation into the murder of an Arizona entrepreneur and gambler; Bill Whitaker's report on a heist of Swiss bank computer files; and Jan Crawford's report on a movement to governors running for the White House to give up their day jobs.
Here's a recap of how CBS News' broadcasts performed last week:
CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY added +580,000 viewers and posted the largest percentage gain in adults 25-54 among the network evening news broadcasts, for the week ending July 10. The broadcast delivered 6.68 million viewers (up +10% from 6.10m) and a 1.3/06 with adults 25-54 (up +8% from 1.2/05). Television year-to-date, CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is up +3% in viewers (7.12m from 6.90m) and even in adults 25-54 (1.4/06) compared to last year.
FACE THE NATION was the #1 Sunday morning public affairs program with viewers and adults 25-54 (tied) on June 12. The broadcast delivered 2.76 million viewers and a 0.6/03 with adults 25-54. Television year-to-date, FACE THE NATION is first in viewers with 3.36 million viewers and tied for first in adults 25-54 with a 0.7/04. Compared to last year, FACE THE NATION is up +5% in viewers (from 3.19m) and even in adults 25-54. Editor's Note: FACE THE NATION's second half-hour was broadcast contiguously across 76.3% of the CBS affiliates.
60 MINUTES (R) delivered 7.58 million viewers and a 1.3/05 with adults 25-54 on June 12. Television year-to-date 60 MINUTES is delivering 11.47 million viewers (up +1% from 11.31m) and a 2.4/07 with adults 25-54.
CBS THIS MORNING posted double-digit percentage gains among adults 25-54, women 25-54 and women 18-49 compared to a year ago for the week ending July 10. CBS THIS MORNING delivered 3.18 million viewers, up +11% from the same week a year ago, and cut the gap with NBC to only 871,000 viewers. This week marks the closest competitive position to NBC for a CBS morning news broadcast in nearly 21 years (since the week ending 7/29/94). Television year-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING is the only network morning news broadcast posting gains in adults 25-54 (+13%, 0.9/07 from 0.8/06) and viewers (+9%, 3.37m from 3.08m) compared to last year.
CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD was the #1 Sunday morning news program with adults 25-54 and viewers on June 12. The broadcast delivered 4.97 million viewers and a 1.1/07 with adults 25-54. Television year-to-date, CBS SUNDAY MORNING is up +1% in viewers (5.96m from 5.88m) compared to last year.
48 HOURS (R) delivered 2.41 million viewers and a 0.6 with adults 25-54 on June 11. Television season-to-date, 48 HOURS is delivering 5.64 million viewers (up +7% from 5.25m) and even in adults 25-54 with a 1.4/04 compared to last year.
CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY posted double-digit percentage gains in adults 25-54 and viewers compared to the same week the year before on July 11. The broadcast delivered 2.28 million viewers, its largest audience since February 21, 2015. Television year-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY is the only Saturday morning network broadcast posting gains in viewers (+9%, 2.10m from 1.92m) compared to last year.
